Ok I think this is solved now. I found that I had amavisd-milter and amavis-new in tw different directories and I overlooked it because amavisd-milter was in /var/spool/amavis and amavis-new was in /var/spool/amavisd. I moved both into /var/spool/amavis and restarted all processes and now sendmail is working as it should going through checking for virii and spam.

So thanks for all the help here it helped out alot!

Thanks

Nick

Glad to hear you're up & away!

BTW these are the perms/ownerships from my production system in case yours may not be 100% correct after your troubleshooting. In your case obviously substitute vscan for amavis:

drwxr-x--- 7 amavis amavis 4096 Sep 13 20:38 /var/amavis/

/var/amavis/:
total 28
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 0 Apr 23 17:31 amavisd.lock
srwxr-xr-x 1 amavis amavis 0 Jul 19 08:47 amavisd-milter.sock
srwxr-x--- 1 amavis amavis 0 Aug 17 00:48 amavisd.sock
drwxr-x--- 2 amavis amavis 4096 Aug 17 00:48 db
drwxr-x--- 2 amavis amavis 4096 Sep 13 20:37 tmp

/var/amavis/db:
total 1512
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 528384 Sep 13 20:33 cache.db
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 331776 Sep 13 20:33 cache-expiry.db
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 24576 Aug 17 00:48 __db.001
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 278528 Aug 17 00:48 __db.002
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 450560 Aug 17 00:48 __db.003
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 12288 Sep 13 20:33 nanny.db
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 12288 Sep 13 20:33 snmp.db

/var/amavis/tmp:
total 20
-rw-r----- 1 amavis amavis 177 Nov 15 2005 razor-agent.log
-rw------- 1 amavis amavis 4558 Jun 23 13:01 spamassassin.9743.PgNtNO.tmp

My SpamAssassin doesn't appear to be applying the Bayesian filter correctly and I'm a little lost about how to proceed.

I believe I have my system set up nearly identically to that listed in the HOWTO, but I keep getting BAYES_00 reported in all my messsage headers. I populated the bayesian token db via a manual script with over 2,000 archived spam messages and 1,000 or so HAM messages - and I've also implemented modified scripts from the "Care and Feeding of your Bayes" HOWTO. And yet my Bayes is not being very caring in return...

Here's the relevant header from the latest message to get through:

X-Spam-Score: 1.525
X-Spam-Level: *
X-Spam-Status: No, score=1.525 tagged_above=-9999 required=4
tests=[BAYES_00=-2.599, FORGED_MUA_EUDORA=2.484,
UNPARSEABLE_RELAY=0.001, URIBL_SBL=1.639]

As you can see, the BAYES_00 resulted in a -2.6 score which negated the rest. But, if I run that same message body through spamassassin via:

Code: Select all

su amavis -c 'spamc -R' < testmessage

I get the following:

pts rule name
---- ----------------------
3.5 BAYES_99
[...]

It appears SA isn't using the correct bayes DB when launched from the milter, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why...

I verified that my milter is running under the amavis user:
# ps aux | grep milter
amavis 14221 0.0 0.0 43764 824 ? Ssl Sep17 10:45 /usr/local/sbin/amavisd-milter -s local:/var/spool/amavisd/amavisd-milter.sock -p /var/spool/amavisd/amavisd-milter.pid -w /var/spool/amavisd -S /var/spool/amavisd/amavisd.sock

Although spamd itself is running as root:
# ps aux | grep spam
root 19484 0.0 0.2 32196 2604 ? Ss Aug20 0:08 /usr/bin/spamd -d -c -m5 -H -r /var/run/spamd.pid

Any help?

Problem following wiki

Postby alfista » Sat Jan 20, 2007 10:52 pm

Using FC5 and scalix 11...fresh install

when I try to start the amavis-milter service I get the following error:

Code: Select all

Starting Amavisd Milter Interface (amavisd-milter): could not unlink old milter socket /var/amavis/amavisd-milter.sock: Permission denied
                                                           [FAILED]

The install process didn't create /var/amavis so I created it, but it doesn't seem to get as far as it needs to...I must have missed something but I reviewed my steps.

Any thoughts on what I missed?

Thanks,

Jason

Make sure the ownerships/perms are correct on the directory, my /var/amavis is mode 0750, owner/group amavis:amavis

Worked perfectly. Thanks. Haven't had much time to test yet, though.

Can't get the init script working properly

Postby interways2 » Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:50 pm

Hello!

Running SuSE 10.1, the init and sysconfig scripts Ben provides in the Wiki do not work. After typing chkconfig --add amavisd-milter i keep getting this error message:
insserv: script amavisd-milter is broken: missing end of LSB comment.
insserv: exiting now!

Any ideas?

Thanks

Look for ## and change it to #.

It seams that LSB does not accept ##.

local socket name /var/amavis/amavisd-milter.osck unsafe

Postby divisionbyzero » Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:39 pm

Hello everyone,

I have followed the instructions on the updated Wiki post regarding integrating Scalix 11 with amavisd.

I have no errors with any other part of the installation except for amavisd-milter. This is what shows up on a tail -f /var/log/mailllog:

Code: Select all

Mar 26 02:34:20 scalix sendmail[5238]: l2PGYKWQ005238: from=<root@xxx.com.au>, size=814, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200703251634.l2PGYKNc028417@xxx.com.au>, proto=ESMTP, relay=root@localhost
Mar 26 02:34:20 scalix sendmail[5239]: l2PGYKdC005239: Milter (milter-amavis): local socket name /var/amavis/amavisd-milter.osck unsafe
Mar 26 02:34:20 scalix sendmail[5239]: l2PGYKdC005239: Milter (milter-amavis): to error state
Mar 26 02:34:20 scalix sendmail[5239]: l2PGYKdC005239: Milter: initialization failed, temp failing commands
Mar 26 02:34:20 scalix sendmail[5238]: l2PGYKWQ005238: to=<matt.baluyos@xxx.com>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30814, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: 451 4.3.2 Please try again later

I have looked at some of the previous posts on this thread regarding permissions and have tried to do the suggested fixes but still no luck.

What could be the problem here?
