Scalix Server Error Cannot Connect to Mail Server

Postby peter5898 » Fri Aug 11, 2006 5:13 pm

I have a fedora 4 Box that has Scalix installed I have just tried to logon to it via http:hostname\webmail and I receive the error cannot connect to mail server and I am also unable to logon as the administrator - I have checked the services and have noticed that the scalix service is missing from the list i have also tried to reboot the box but this does not fix the issue - I have installed scalix on a new machine so I won't loose any future emails - my main concern is my old and recent emails which are the box is there any way I can move my mail boxes for my users and import them.

I would be grateful of any suggestions or ideas :D

Thanks

Peter

You can use the omcpoutu and omcpinu (see the man pages for details) commands to move mail between two servers. When you saw that the Scalix server wasn't running on the other Linux box, did you attempt to start it? If so, what happened? Did you check the Linux messages file to see what that reported?

Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I can't start the scalix service as it isn't visible in the service list so I’m guessing that it must be corrupt the service - I have tried the commands that you gave me to try to move the mail boxes but it displays an error advising that the user does not exist.

I have also tried to move the entire contents on the \var\opt\scalix folder over to a fresh built fedora scalix box but when I try this it causes the scalix server services to also disappear from the service list – and then when I try to logon I get the error “cannot connect to mail serverâ€

So obviously your Scalix Server is not running at all.

Are you able to start it manually using an

Code: Select all

omrc

command, run as root?

Thx,

I have just tried that command and i get the following error:-

/opt/scalix/bin/omrc : File /var/opt/scalix/tmp/omrc.running exists.
Assuming another omrc is in progress
scalix services not started

so that looks like a startup run has aborted.

you might want to check an ps auxww | grep scalix and see if there is any process running. If so, you might want to reboot your machne. If not, you can delete the file mentioned in the error and try omrc again.
