provider says that i send "spam mails"

Postby superking » Mon Mar 13, 2006 1:48 pm

Ive installed Scalix bevor 2 weeks. It work fine. Now i have the problem that several Provider block my mails. It worked bevor ! I open the Relay only for internal server adress, so i think its save, and i'm not on a blacklist.

I have a dynamic externe IP Adress. I'm behind a NAT Router with a fix internal adress. So it's a little bit complicate with the dns. (I think the prob is somewhere in the dns?!)

I contacted alredy the GMX Provider because the folowing error. GMX says they dont block e-mails from dynamic IP! And remember it work bevor 1 week.

Here an example of the GMX Provider:

> The original message was received at Sat, 4 Mar 2006 19:20:49 +0100
> from localhost [127.0.0.1]
>
> ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
> <example@gmx.ch>

A number of ISPs/MTAs will reject mail from IP addresses that are in a dynamic range as they are typically dial-up users. AOL is a prime example of this. The solution is to route mail for problem domains through your ISP.

Search for the word "mailertable" in these forums and you will see how you need to make use of your ISPs mail relay to work around this.

Cheers

Hi,

there is nothing you can do about that other than sending thru your upstream ISP. As indicated in your error log snippet, your sending IP address is listen in SORBS dynamic IP (212-41-87-164.adsl.solnet.ch) range

It does not mean you are sending out spam, all it means is that _some_ hosts on the Internet are picky about whom they accept mail from. Since this is a configuration issue out of your control, see above. Send thru smtp.solnet.ch after checking back with their NOC.

Currently

Cheers,

Sascha.

Hello again,

i find why its sometimes work with the provider and sometimes not.

the spam filter of the providers check the IP if its a dynamic ip or not, like blacklist check. But even you have a dynamic ip adress it's not sure that is listed in the "spamer list"

you can check your ip address if its listed in a blacklist, dynamic ip... check this page:

http://www.kloth.net/services/dnsbl.php

enter your ip address and you can see if its registred somewhere.

bye

The problem is not your provider it is the mail server of the recipient. If it uses a spam filter that checks if the mail came from a dynamic IP adress then it will likely be filtered out. It is generally no good idea to have mail server with a dynamic IP. Just spend the extra money to get a static IP.
You could also use a smart host (use the search function to get more information on that), but I don't think that this is worth the effort.

Static IP is really neccessary because without it, you'll get blacklisted by a lot of servers because your ptr (reverse dns) record will say something like 207-209-65-23.adsl.comcast.net

And even when you do get a static ip via dsl/cable, your ptr record will still return something like the example shown in first paragraph, so your not fixed yet with static ip. The second step to getting your static IP is to get the provider to give you a REAL ptr record, that does not say "dsl, cable, adsl" or any such nonsense in it.

This way when another server handshakes with yours and does a reverse lookup on the IP, you won't get blocked.

I solved this problem by using a the mailgatewayserver of my provider. Every mail is sent from my scalix server is first sent to my providers relayhost. So I have no problems with dynamic ips. Perhaps you can also use the mailserver of you provider.

Where do i configure an external MTA?

I've got the same problem.

Code: Select all

----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to mx0.gmx.net.:
<<< 554-mx0.gmx.net Your address is listed as dynamic on SORBS (dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net) <<< 554 We are not accepting connections from such hosts. ( http://www.gmx.net/serverrules ) ... while talking to mx0.gmx.de.:
<<< 554-mx0.gmx.net Your address is listed as dynamic on SORBS (dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net) <<< 554 We are not accepting connections from such hosts. ( http://www.gmx.net/serverrules )
554 5.0.0 Service unavailable

---------------

OK, i've found it.

in /etc/sendmail.cf i have to define a SMART HOST.

How is it with SMTP Login? Where put i user and password?
