pop3 works, imap and SWA don't see mailbox?

Postby dpuryear » Fri Jul 07, 2006 11:05 am

We have a problem with a specific mailbox. This may be related to the permission denied error in the topic I posted this morning, but we aren't sure.

We have a mailbox ABC. If we pop the mailbox we see the mail in Inbox (but not subfolders). We also see NEW mail that is being delivered as we speak. However, IMAP returns a "cannot SELECT.." error and SWA always reports "username or password incorrect" when trying to login.

The mailbox in question is about 1.3 GB (when we back it up to a mail file). Perhaps that has something to do with it? I wouldn't think so though.

How can we troubleshoot this? I just dug through the tech docs and howtos, but am not seeing any notes on this.

Any help is appreciated!

Are you saying this is the only mailbox with a problem and others can be accessed using SWA?

If so, what does /var/opt/scalix/logs/fatal give you as well as omshowlow -p 15 -l 99 after you try to logon using IMAP?

Cheers,

Sascha.

Yes, this only affects one mailbox that I'm aware of. I just logged into another mailbox that has subfolders, etc., and it worked fine.

I get this from omshowlog..

SERIOUS ERROR Internet Mail (Incoming ) 07.07.06 10:25:34

And this in fatal:

SERIOUS ERROR Internet Mail (Incoming ) Fri Jul 7 10:25:34 2006

The fatal log is Internet Mail, not IMAP. This is not relevant to the login problem.

Please use omshowlog -p 60 -l 99

Sascha.

Okay. Thta is not showing anything really:

REPORT SMTP Relay (SMTPD Relay Pr) 07.07.06 10:39:59
[OM.DMON 2172] SMTP: Rejected relay attempt from at xx to xx@xx

REPORT SMTP Relay (SMTPD Relay Pr) 07.07.06 10:40:00

REPORT SMTP Relay (SMTPD Relay Pr) 07.07.06 10:41:34
[OM.DMON 2172] SMTP: Rejected relay attempt from at xx to xx@xx

This is after I logged-in and then the mail client tried to select some IMAP mailboxes. It can't see anything, including Inbox.

Pop3 continues to grab mail in Inbox.

Not sure on the status of subfolders.

IMAP

[root@mail ~]# telnet localhost 143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK Scalix IMAP server 10.0.1.3 ready on mail.xx.com
01 login xx@xx xx
01 OK LOGIN completed, now connected to mail.xx.com
02 select inbox
02 NO cannot SELECT that mailbox

POP3

[root@mail ~]# telnet localhost 110
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK Scalix POP3 interface ready on: mail.xx.com
user xx@xx
+OK xx@xx gets mail here
pass xx
+OK User Signed on: xx@xx intray has 825 messages
RETR 825
...

The RETR works fine. Also, the POP3 server is apparently able to read Inbox.

Also, more good/bad news.

I am able to view the mailbox just fine using Microsoft Outlook with the Connector.

So it appears that this is occuring with IMAP and SWA.

We did try a restart of scalix services and even a reboot via 'reboot'.

Has this user ever been able to use SWA/IMAP to access his/her mailbox? If so, how long ago did it stop working? Can you try this first:

omoff -d0 -w imap rci
omon imap rci

Now try telne'ing to socket 143 again and see if you can log this user in.

Thanks,
Rachel

Weird. It magically started working for about an hour. Then, it stopped working except on a few subfolders. Now it stopped working altogether for this user. I ran your commands and it didn't help.

Yes, this user had complete and working access until this morning really.

I'd be happy to let Scalix take a close look at this and see if there is a bug or something. The machine is dedicated to Scalix and we didn't do anything to it. All of a sudden.. poof! :)

In order for us to take it to that level you would need to purchase a Support Incident. If you're interested in doing so, let me know and I'll send you the forms.

Thanks,
Rachel
