Full Migration: Samsung Contact to Scalix 10

Postby nicotest » Mon Jun 12, 2006 8:26 am

Hello!

I want to migrate a Samsung Contact system to a completly new server
with scalix 10.

In http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1135 I read many hints
on how to do that.

But my plan is a bit different:

- I have to merge all data (mailboxes, e-mail adresses, rules, ...) but I do not
want to recreate all the mailnodes we had before. Instead I would like to merge
everything to a single mailnode. Is that possible?

If it is not possible, would the following plan be correct:

- Install scalix 10 on newly installed Linux
- Show what mailnodes are on the old system (omshowmn)
- Create those mailnodes on the new system (omaddmn)
- fsck the old message store: omscan -Aavf
- Export all user-data on the old system, using a script with omshowu -m all
and omcpoutu
- shutdown samsung contact, so there are no modifications
- Copy the exported data via scp to new server
- Read in old data with omcpinu
- Install scalix connector on clients
- Be happy

What do you think about that?

And is there any way I can make sure that the users and scalix cannot
modify the message store anymore, but can access it read-only? This way the
users would only use have the functionality.

Hello,

omcpinu -f filename -m mailnode will do what you want.

EXAMPLES
To copy the Message Store data for Jasmin Lee/ny,hq,legal which is held
in a file called jlee.dat, to a new mailbox on the existing mailnode
chicago,factory,admin, type:

omcpinu -f jlee.dat -m "chicago,factory,admin"

To copy the Message Store data for Sarah O’Leary/ny,hq,legal which is
held in a file called soleary.dat, to a new mailbox on the existing
mailnode chicago, factory, admin, merging all folders with the same name
in both the file and the existing mailbox type:

omcpinu -f soleary.dat -m "chicago,factory,admin"

To merge the Message Store data for Julie Gallagher, held in a file
called jg.dat, to an existing mailbox, and merge the top level folder
Calendar, and the subfolder 1998 in the top level folder Sales, type:

omcpinu -f jg.dat -l "Calendar+Sales>1998"

Cheers,

Sascha.

Thanks for the information.

Is the plan I described above correct, so I will not lose any information?

Hi,

yes, this will work.

Note that you do not need to create the old Contact mailnodes, so you can import straight into the new Scalix mailnode.

Now the devil is in the detail. This is definitely something you want to try ahead of time. While theoretically the data format of omcpinu should be interchangeable between Contact and Scalix, there is no guarantee, but high probablility.

As to prevent people from changing old mail, you could mount that store read-only with symlink pointing to the tmp directories. I doubt Samsung will come up on a complete read-only partition. But I may have understood you wrong, here.

Cheers,

Sascha.
