Fedora Core 5

Hi Everyone,

I am a complete Newbie to Linux however, I did manage to install Fedora Core 5 onto a PC without problems. I am using a Mini-ITX motherboard with 1GB RAM and a 120GB HDD. However, despite adding various packages I could not get Scalix to install.

After 2 days trying this I ldecided to load Fedora Core 4, however, this still will not allow me to install Scalix (Community Edition). This is now my third day of trying and I am beginning to think that Linux/Scalix is probably not a viable solution for anyone who is not a Linux guru!

Has anyone documented an idiots guide (i.e. step by step guide) to installing Fedora Core 4/5 and Scalix? Particularly, installing Linux and all its dependant packages etc. Is there an easy way to identify missing packages and installing those required?

I seem to have a lot of problems checking and installing RPM's in Core 4, although it does seem easier in Core 5.

I would welcome any comments/help!

Cheers,

Chips

Can you give us a better idea of just what the problems are that you are having?
FC5 appears to have some issues. You are better off sticking to FC4.
Installation is as simple as installing all of the pre-requisites and running the installer.
What problems are you having installing packages, and how are you doing it? Yum is probably your best friend here.
Once all the pre-requisites are in place, check for other services which might clash. Most notably, I think FC4 installs postfix by default, which may conflict with scalix. You can't have two programs listening on the same port. Just disable it.
Then run the installer. Any problems it encounters, it will tell you in fairly concise terms.
There's a couple of gotchas on FC4 that you might need to know, such as the network check, but they are all on the forums.

FC 5 is not supported. The install guide covers required packages for RH/FC. Also see this post:
