Scalix on another distro...

Hi Scalix forum.

First of all - great great program . That works

But I would like to know, (Still a newbie into Linux) is it possible to get scalix to work on another distro????

Most of all - I don´t like Red Hat or SUSE that much, but would like to get a scalix server running on an Arch Linux server. I haven´t tried it yet, but is it possible to do that ???

That would be unsupported and at your own risk, if you use Scalix EE or SBE or CE.

You can try Scalix Raw, which caters for multiple distro's, but you can't use that in a commercial setting.

Hi Per,

you mention that you're a Linux Newbie yourself - not sure if you want to go down that path. Outside of support, you might really be able to get something running based on packages and instructions provided in CE Raw.

However, not sure about the amount of work and pain that might cause. Unless you're really after a serious Linux workout (think Marathon!), I would recommend going with one of our supported Distros. Installing Scalix on SuSE or RedHat typically takes less than one hour from start to a fully running enterprise email system; the Installer also takes care about most common problems - this is really one of Sclaix' great strengths and everybody confirms that.

Raw is made for ´people who want to get more experimental, but obviously also have a lot of Linux experience to back their actions.

of course that´s the easiest way just to use one of the distroes...

I´m administrating a school (whole network is based on Linux - with ldap and so on) and yet I started with Linux last summer - so I´m getting just a little bit of the way.

But I have set up the whole system based on Arch Linux and are really satisfied about the way it´s running...... The reason is to set it up on one of the arch machines, instead of reinstalling it to SUSE or Red HAt...

But hmmm I´ll give it a shot and see how far it takes me - its the only way to learn

I just checked out the archlinux.org homepage, btw., never had heard of that one before. It seems a bit off the mainstream (doesn't use either RPM or DEB as standard package format), so I must dare to assume that this is going to be a lot of work.

If you get going with it, I would encourage you though to author something on the Scalix Wiki at www.scalix.com/wiki about it - so that others could benefit.

Off course - thats what Linux about - sharing info...

That´s why I got hook on linux.

Arch is none standart Linux, but I really like it very much -
