All,
as I've started the 11.3 discussion here, let me use this particular place to spread the latest news.
With feedback from development, we've decided yesterday to move the release of Scalix 11.3 into early next year, presumably 2nd week of January.
The reason for this were two areas that we didn't feel we knew enough about to release this product version.
The first issue was introduced by the pretty unexpected and early release of Microsoft's Service Pack 1 for Office 2007. This caused one issue with Support for Outlook 2007, which was subsequently investigated into, found and fixed within not much more than a day. The fact that Microsoft seems to have changed some things in SP1, however, that are able to cause issues with the connector, leads us to the conclusion that we need more thorough testing on the SP1 version before we can ship the product. This will take a number of days.
In addition, we found one issue inside the Scalix Messaging Services Web Services platform that led to some performance issues and stability concerns for heavily loaded systems with a large number of SWA users. Again, we decided that we want to further investigate into this before we declare the product gold master.
The two things would have led to a potential release date by the end of next week, as we were one week behind original schedule already (planned release date was 12/11, however, with a project running for about 3 months, an overall delay of one week given the challenges of new features is actually pretty good and very much on track).
Now, while we would all have loved to give all of you and also ourselves this piece as a christmas gift, reality speaks a different language. Based on reduced load over the holiday season, we are not as fully staffed on the support side as we are during normal times (although stuffed with sumptous christmas dinners we may well be !!), so if there had been any customer issues with upgrades, we would have been in a situation that could have become challenging.
For that reason, we're giving this some more time, possibly without further change and we'll take a break over the holidays and ship this early next year, with all the backing that this new product deserves.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, wish you a great holiday season and we'll be back with more (just working on the 2008 roadmap) next year!
Florian.
