Mail Forwarding

Postby Mythrol » Fri Mar 10, 2006 3:34 pm

Is there an option in Scalix anywhere where I can create a user@mydomain.com and then have that mail forwarded to another email address?

Actually, multiple ways.

If you just need a forward, you don't even need a full user account or license. Just go to sac and create an internet user with the primary email address to be the one to forward to and the secondary one the one on which to receive email.

If you need a user with a forward, we recommend setting up a server-side rule to forward incoming messages. This can be done using the out-of-office assistant in outlook or the rules wizard in outlook or swa. In addition, there is a command line tool called sxaa in the Scalix Admin Resource Kit.

Cheers,
Florian.

Do both of these methods require that the client be open to process the rule? Or are they handled server-side?

If you're just forwarding a message, they will be precessed on the server.

The client does not need to be running.

Personally, I use SXAA to set up a permanent rule which the end user will never modify or look at. It's much faster, and it looks very different from a rule created by an end user.

If the user will work with the rule, (changeing it, or enabling & disabling it, etc) use the Outlook Rules Wizard, because it allows you to "name" a rule so that it makes sense to the user, and so they can tell the difference between their various rules.

I'm going to be releasing an update to sxaa in the very near future that has a couple of enhancements and a bug fix.

I've included the ability to specify the Item Class ( this helps distinguish between meeting requests and regular messages ) and also it is possible to specify the name of the rule.

Cheers

Any chance of having a forward which drops attachments, particularly attachments larger than a specified size? Or dropping them based on the type of attachment they were? (Drop scr, exe, etc.)

We forward to Blackberries and Treo's, and particularly the Blackberries just run out of space when you send them an attachment, and it's more annoying when the attachment is a type that can't be used on that device anyway.

Not overly important, but if you're in there changing things, I'd see this as a "nice to have" type of enhancement.

Thanks
Kev.
