Also, if the permissions error reported by omcheck does still exist, you should be aware that

Code: Select all

omcheck -i -s

does not actually fix the problem, but generates a shell script - on standard output - that, when run, fixes the problem...

So if I'm not completely mistaken here you would

Code: Select all

omcheck -i -s >fix_perms.sh
bash ./fix_perms.sh

You might want to review what the script is planning to do before actually executing the second command.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Hello,

I have to say this morning when I got up and saw Daves response to this thread I felt rather pissed off. However I stepped away from the keyboard before I wrote a response as it wouldnt have been pretty and it wouldnt have helped.

I then realised that I have had a bucket load of help from the Scalix people in an attempt to help this user that hasn't even paid for support. So really I should be grateful for the help I have recieved so far.

This brings me to the reason I am posting as I want to say thanks for all the help Sacha and Florian have given me as they have truelly tried to help me solve the problem.

Dave thanks for the blunt reminder on how to read the sticky threads and I guess I should have posted originally that I had read the logs.

Anyway long story short, I went back and read the logs but also noticed a new log called Fatal, not Fatal.log just Fatal. I read this log and guess what it said, dont guess Ill post the answer.

--------------Fatal Log---------------------------------------
SERIOUS ERROR Internet Mail (Incoming ) Sun May 7 13:23:35 2006
[SYS 13] Permission denied
File Name: /var/opt/scalix/sys/defmnode
Pid of logging process: 19295
Current errno value: 13
------------End Log--------------------------------------

So I go and check the permission on that file and low and behold, root has ownership and group permissions on the file. As soon as I changed them to scalix it all started to flow.

So things I have learned are that even though I used the permissions flag on the rsynch move it needs to be checked.

Florian I did realise that omcheck does spits out a shell script and I did run it, but it didnt fix the problem, but thanks once again.

Eitherway I want to say thanks a million especially considering it has been free support, one of the objectives for this is that I work as a consultant and I have been accessing alternatives for Enterprise mail other than Exchange and other Windows based systems, especially for the SMB market in Australia and really have found something that stacks up and has the vendor support behind it.

Cheers
FrogSkin.

Hi FrogSkin,

first, thanks for the thorough roundup on what was needed to fix this; also thanks for pointing out the fact that the omcheck command does not find permission errors on this file - believe this is a (minor) bug that I'll log in our bugtracking system.

As for Dave's comment, let me add two things here....

(1) I read this too, before adding my answer to the thread; my thought was - yeah, right, why haven't "we other" (in this case that's Sascha and myself) Scalix people - who should really know better - haven't given you that advice (to check the fatal log) in the first place - Scalix logging and error reporting is pretty good, and one shouldn't try to search for the needle in the haystack unless before having exploited the obvious.

(2) looking at the time of his post (he's in California...), what we talk about is 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning at his home, so I guess it's pretty obvious why one keeps his answers on the forum rather terse.

Anyway, knowing him - and everybody else with Scalix who writes on this forum - in person, I can certainly assure you that we're not trying to play the Mr. Dumb User card against you - email is a complex application after all.

Well, glad that it's working again for you.

Florian.
