Scalix with KMail

Postby datajar » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:31 pm

In KMail I can set up the address book to use IMAP resources. This allows me to see all of my contacts from Scalix in the KMail address book.

I set this up and it worked fine for a day, displaying all of my contacts. Then for some reason it stopped working. I can no longer see my contacts in the KMail address book (although if I look at the mail folders I can see them under the IMAP folder Contacts but this doesn't allow me to do look up when sending a new e-mail)
I can create a new contact, which stores it on the Scalix server under My Contacts but with a strange subject like this "vCard vrzWtW00Sz", I can see this new contact under the IMAP Contacts folder but not in KMail address book.

In KMail I have enabled Groupware resources.

Also tried Ldap but couldn't make this work either.

Is there something on the Scalix server I need to do to enable this? Or does someone have a HowTo for Scalix and KMail with the address book working?

BTW, I tried Evolution for a while both as IMAP and with Scalix Connector. I had to do evolution --force-shutdown at least 6 times a day when Evolution froze so gave up on it.

I regret that at the moment, the Contacts folder contents rendered in IMAP is really intended to be read only. If you append contact messages to the Contacts folder, they will NOT be interpreted as Scalix Contacts and you are likely to have issues.

Gren.

Ok, But I also can't read IMAP contacts. Is there something I need to check on the server to be able to do this?
It did work f but since the server was rebooted due to a power outage I have not been able to view my contacts through IMAP.

Alternatively, can you let me know how to do this via ldap?
I tried:
Bind DDN: cn="My display name"
Realm: o=Scalix
DB: o=My Contacts
Authentication set as SASL DIGEST-MD5 (also tried Plain) using my Scalix login credentials.

Responds with
Additional info: SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found authentication not supported

Hi,

The IMAP read of contacts should work so I suggest to persue that long term as LDAP access to private contacts is a special feature for SWA only and may change.

If you still want to try the LDAP route, use plain authentication and o=MyContacts (note no space).

Regards,
Danny

Hi.

In the Kontact (superset of KMail) LDAP Resource Configuration for me, I filled in :
Read-only - YES
User: cn="Gren Elliot"
Dind DN:
Realm:
Password:MySecretPassword
Host:fred.scalix.com
Port:389:
DN:o=MyContacts
Security:No
Authentication:Simple

I think the important things are the way you specify the User, no space in "o=MyContacts" and simple authentication.

Thanks Gren this worked for me!
The trick was putting cn="my name" into the User: field, previously I had been trying to use my scalix login user name xxx@xxx.com.au

I will also continue to try to get IMAP contacts working but at least now I can see all my contacts via ldap so I'm happy :D

KMail integration with LDAP

Postby eljefe » Wed May 07, 2008 10:56 am

I too have been able to set up LDAP lookup of contacts, but this only works in the Contacts address book as well, not while composing emails.

My settings are thus:
User: cn="First Lastname" ## failed on "cn="first.lastname@domain.com""
Bind DN:
Realm:
Password: ********
Host: scalix.domain.com
Port: 389
LDAP Version: 3
Size Limit: Default
Time Limit: Default
DN: o=Contacts
Security: No
Authentication: Simple

Kontact

Postby eljefe » Mon Oct 13, 2008 1:40 pm

OK somewhere along the way, LDAP address lookup works when composing.

I can create calendar events in Kontact's Scalix Resource and they do upload to my Scalix online/web accout, but I get constant errors about the URL scalix:// not working to upload free/busy times.

Although the calendar in my SWA screen reflects those appointments I've made with Kontact, my coworkers do not see me as busy.

I would think Scalix is smart enough to merge these two (if I have something on my calendar, i am busy!) but maybe not.

Does anyone know another way to get this working?

## Error Message ##

Calendar functionality now working

Postby eljefe » Wed Jan 21, 2009 11:18 am

Here is the fix for Free/Busy, note that I now use the 'scalixwizard' to set up Kontact/KMail; the 'scalixwizard' app is part of kdepim-wizards package.

After running 'scalixwizard' I had to manually change the SMTP port to 25 for sending email; this may depend on your server setup.

The work around for this is to sigle-quote the Server URL after correcting it, so that it reads:
###
'scalix://User.Name@xxxx.myscalixdomain.net/freebusy/Calendar/User.Name@emaildomain.com'
###
Note that double-quoting the Server URL doesn't work, nor does trying to escape (\) the punctuation issues.
This error may not exist for everyone, as it likely depends somewhat on how one is required to log into the server, etc., but it has been a long time annoyance with only recently the work-around figured out.

The above 'scalix://...........' line is working again. How frustrating can this be?
