Send copy of email to another mailbox?

Postby kazinvan » Fri Feb 01, 2008 4:34 pm

I'm not sure how to do this in Scalix. I have two accounts, say ceo@domain.com and assistant@domain.com. assistant should get a copy of ALL mail that arrives for ceo. How can I enable this?

I'm assuming I need to set up some kind of forwarding but I need to maintain a copy in the original destination inbox. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Hi

You don't give much info such as how you connect to the server.

If you use Outlook then you can use Outlook rules to do what you wish
If you use SWA then you can use the Scalix rules wizard to achieve the same thing

If I use outlook then that doesn't help because the CEO would have to have his computer (laptop) plugged in and running outlook 24/7. This doesn't help since the point is to have a copy of his email sent to the assistant regardless of what the CEO is doing.

Your link doesn't work, but I'll try to find more info on the scalix rules wizard, thanks.

I have found the scalix rules wizard, but when I log in to /Scalix/rw I can set up rules for my account only. How do I set this up for other accounts? There must be a way to create the rules for the user without knowing their password.

Hi

No OOPS

The Outlook / SRW rules that you generate are all server based and run even when Outlook dosn't. Just anouter little gem from the really considerate guys at Scalix.

Oh as an aside. When you do sxmboxexp all rules are backup as well as view settings and much more. Even more gems

You can also use the sxaa tool to set up rules from the command line.

Nice, thanks. That is what I was looking for.

For anyone who is looking at this thread for the answer, the command I used was:

Code: Select all

sxaa --user "CEO Account" --redirect "assistant@domain.com" --retain

May I know whats the use of that "--retain" option in there.

Usually a --forward deletes the message in the INBOX after forwarding it. --retain stops this behaviour.

redirect with filter

Postby kazinvan » Thu Feb 21, 2008 2:30 pm

So this seems to work well for directing all mail from CEO to assistant:

Code: Select all

sxaa --user "CEO Account" --redirect "assistant@domain.com" --retain

However I now need to set it up so that all mail EXCEPT mail from 3 or 4 senders is redirected. I can see you can add a filter using "--sender --not" but how do I get it to work for multiple senders (in different domains)?

This is a bit more tricky, there's some built-in magic in the order the rules gets processed and I cannot recall what they are. You can try to set up a Outlook rule, add "Stop processing more rules" as an action to it, make sure it's server-side (sxaa should show it). Then use sxaa to add the forward rule after the Outlook-created one. This may or may not work, you will have to test.

Valerion, could you be more specific? Create a rule in outlook that does what? And how do I specify multiple senders to ignore when I create the forward rule? Can I use regexp?

You will have to create a rule for every exception, no regexps allowed. You can try to create a rule, then put as action "Stop processing further rules" (the last action, I believe). Not sure if it will work, though. Otherwise you will have to talk to Scalix Support. I don't think the system was designed for this, though, this is typically where you would use delegation rather than forwarding.
