In this case I would have to create a local PST file and drag and drop mail items in batches. This would let me isolate bad messages- usually ones with bad attachments (mostly from the same internal sender.) When I reimported into Exchange, the internal e-mail messages would be screwed up (they would show up as X400 or something similar.) This could be an issue if someone receive a message from a coworker on monday, migrated to exchange on tueday, then tried replaying to the message on wed. If you are in IMAP mode (vs MAPI mode) when exporting the mail from outlook you don't have this problem. I don't think it is really that big of a problem if you give the users a heads-up (my company is relatively small with a mostly computer-savvy employees.) FYI- you would have the same issue if you exported your Exchange e-mail to have a backup at home on machine with Outlook not connecting to your exchange server.

Replying to old messages after a migration, more often than not will not work because the address is not just user@domain.com, its an X400 with reference to the original server. Its the same for addresses in outlook cache (nk2). Even though they may appear correct, they still have characteristics related to the source server. You have to cleanup the nk2 file for internal addresses and let users know that replying to an old email may not work, so forwarding is the better option if necessary. I've seen that happen on many migrations, not just from Scalix to whatever. ;)

Wow, coming back and re-reading this thread brings up many happy memories. About 7 pages and 12 months ago I said I'd keep persisting with Scalix. Today that is no more. After a pretty easy migration to hosted Exchange, with all the pomp and ceremony I could muster I simply pulled the power plug on my Scalix server. I'm happy to report the hardware is now enjoying life as a pfSense firewall.

Congratulations to who ever sold Scalix to Sebring, that must have been some pretty slick talking. A product several years and generations behind the standard yardstick that is Exchange (don't bother arguing, that's how Scalix was marketed). A user base that either fled or are so dissatisfied that no amount updates, new versions or grovelling will ever regain their trust.

This thread should be a sticky at the top of EVERY page on the forum to make sure anyone silly enough to look at Scalix gets full disclosure on the state of affairs.

Is it inappropriate to discuss how to move away from Scalix in the Scalix forum? If I still had one ounce of respect for Scalix as a company I'd agree. Since that disappeared about 6 months ago, I mainly used the Outlook Connector and archived everything to PSTs. When that didn't work, which was 50% of the time and usually large mailboxes, I'd revert to IMAP or, if I was desperate, POP3. Didn't have any problem with addressing of old messages. So far, Exchange "just works".

Maybe in 12 months I'll check the forum and thread again...

Boy this thread is sad isn't it?

I took the plunge off the cliff about six months ago, I just couldn't take the quiet anymore. No updates, no news, nothing. Looked like Scalix had died.
Went to something from Ipswitch software called IMail, they have a very nice "IMap Copier" which copied EVERYTHING from Scalix to the Imail server. (Contacts came over as email messages in a Contacts folder, so they were useless, that meant exporting Contacts into PSTs then importing them, but small matter).
No more flaky "omaddu - {insert any number switches} " and what not. Gosh, to read other threads were someone was trying to reimport a user who's email box went corrupt.....and forget simple backup and recoveries on Scalix. And I am a Linux geek, so it's not for lack of Linux tech skills.

Good luck everyone. What a shame that software this good (and HP's OpenMail, of which Scalix is an offspring, is DAMNED good) is left to die.

Today we migrated our last Scalix customer to Zarafa. Its a shame what happened with Scalix. The plan move away all our customers from Scalix started a year ago, because of not solved critical bugs/tickets which made one of our customers very angry. Its a wonder that we had hold our customer because the problems with Scalix started some days after migration from Exchange to Scalix and the problems where never fixed. No more mails and phone calls with customers to tell them that the someone of scalix is working on the problem and will get us feedback, no protection of some support guys which only answer with "you will be provied an update soon" or "we discussing this issue with our senior technical engineer and give you answer when we get a lead from him". I still wait for an update and the lead of him ;-) All of our customers had now Exchange or Zarafa. Last option with some tweaking and special configuration from my side but it works without problems.

I called Scalix a few weeks ago for two customers who needed extra licenses, and one that needed an alterations. I inquired about any news about updates, new versions, anything on the website (which has not changed since 2010) they promised Q1 2012..

guessing they will not announce anything on a Saturday they have one day left..

I am still holding on to a single grass root of hope they will safe the wonderful product..

we will now on Aprils fools
Kind regards,

Paul

Frankly I'm surprised the phone was even answered.

It is just so strange to have someone buy the product and just do nothing with it?? Did they just have a ton of money and wanted to have some fun spending it? Just makes no sense.

Don't expect a response....Scalix Support hasn't been on these forums since December 2009.......

I think we (community who remembers when scalix worked really well), all need to time travel back to 2008. Those were the days........ ;)

As far as I remember there never has been any official Scalix support in the forums apart from Florian (who no longer works for them).
Asking them in the forum is futile. Asking them by phone leads to the generic lie "11.5 will be out next quarter".

The truth can be seen here (Scalix Bugzilla Account required):
https://bugzilla.scalix.com/reports.cgi?product=-All-&datasets=UNCONFIRMED%3A&datasets=NEW%3A&datasets=ASSIGNED%3A&datasets=REOPENED%3A&datasets=RESOLVED%3A&datasets=VERIFIED%3A&datasets=CLOSED%3A&datasets=FIXED%3A

=> Pretty much all development has ceased in February 2010. Scalix - being part of Xandros - just never told anyone. This is the usual way things are handled at Xandros so it should not come as a big surprise. They (Xandros) never ever admit that a product of theirs is no longer developed and just leave it to die without any official comment (examples are abundant, just check their product line).

Scalix is dead and will NOT come back. If you believe otherwise
a) you should have good reasons and preferably share them here
or
b) you are insane.

At least Scalix keeps the bulletin boards up and running. It is a useful forum for those who need to migrate from Scalix to Exchange or Zimbra or some other platform.

Not true. If you look for the forum user "Scalix Support" you will find that, especially in the beginning of the forums, actively responding was a required task for support staff. (that was basically until the flat-fee support model was changed to an incident-based environment).

Also, I never worked for support, but did EMEA Technical Services, Open Source and finally Product/Program Management. :-)
