Scalix 11 and CentOS 5.5 x86_64

Postby fkienker » Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:00 pm

Are these two compatible - Scalix 11 and CentOS 5.5 x86_64? I've done a number of Scalix installs with i386 but this is the first time I've attempted it with x86_64. Never had so much trouble getting it installed - ever! What am I missing?

Or is there no reason to move off of i386?

Best regards,
Fred

I did the STF I should have done in the first place and eventually found the thread which relates to this.
I can definitively say (from painful experience) the Scalix installer is BROKEN with Redhat and CentOS 5.5. Going back to version 5.4 without updating and everything is fine.
Someone at Scalix needs to be looking at this issue.

Sorry, but the statement that the installer is broken on CentOS 5.5 lacks the verification. Though I have noticed the threads here about the omconvinst error we have done enough installations, especially during the trainings we did during the last months, that didnt show any problems.
All lab-machines used a CentOS 5.5 x86_64 minimal install.
From my kickstart file:

Code: Select all

%packages
@admin-tools
@base
@core
@editors
@legacy-network-server
@mail-server
@network-server
@sql-server
@server-cfg
@text-internet
@web-server
keyutils
kexec-tools
trousers
fipscheck
device-mapper-multipath
compat-libstdc++-296
cyrus-sasl-md5
libxml2

locale is set to en_US.UTF-8
I am pretty sure that the issue is related to other packages or other environmental stuff.

I'm glad you are not having issues but my statement still stands.

A CentOS 5.5 machine set up with the packages recommended in the Scalix Installation manual, then "yum update"'ed to current will have the installation issues myself and others have outlined. I'm betting the machines you were using did not have all of the Redhat packages as current as what is available as I write this. Redhat updates on an ongoing basis and I suspect one or more of the changed packages is causing the problem. Or perhaps it's because I did not use a "minimal install" and instead followed the instructions in the manual provided by Scalix. In either case, it needs to be investigated.
