How to migrate Scalix community edition to small business?

Postby Amyris » Mon Dec 14, 2009 12:15 pm

Hi there,

we have got the following problem:

One of our customers is currently using Scalix Community Edition which is installed by using the unsupported Linux Ubuntu. Now the customer wants to upgrade to Scalix Small Business Edition which of course does not seem to run under Linux Ubuntu. So we have to migrate it.

Here is our problem! We want to install the Scalix Small Business Edition under Linux RedHat. Can anybody tell us how to migrate the existing data from the Community Edition to the new installation? Simply entering the new licence key will not do it because it is installed by using an unsupported Linux distribution, or does it? Which files / directories / databases have to be saved and transferred to the new installation (and how)?

We were not able to find a solution by reading the Scalix Migration PDF-file because there only migrations from other mailservers to Scalix were mentioned. So can anybody help?

Many thanks in advance!

I would treat this as a system restore.

1) Backup the /var/opt/scalix
2) Install CentOS/RHEL (Whatever is supported)
3) Restore /var/opt/scalix on new server
4) Run installation of Scalix using same mailnode (unless it detects it already)
5) Enjoy!

The more seasoned may be able to provide more details, but that's basically the backup/restore plan I use.
