Uhm, you went to an older version of java? Why?

Just do the tzupdate as it is explained on that page, I've done it on a few applications here that we couldn't change the java version of, and the update went fine.

Because it specifically said that that version was already updated...

But that doesn't mean that the Scalix-tomcat doesn't use portions of Java that are in 1.5 that aren't in 1.4.

Thats like saying, I'll use the scalix v.10 SAC on v. 11, just cause it's updated. Doesn't mean it will be compatible.

Doesn't matter anyways.
I used tzupdate on jre1.5 and all other java versions installed I could find that needed it.
Then reran it to confirm and it told me the file was up to date.

restarted Tomcat.
No change.

Also just tried to install jre1.5.0_11, which is the latest 1.5 version I can find.
Reconfigured tomcat to use it.

No dice.

Should I be disappointed in the support I'm getting now?
My Admin console's been down for over a week. I was expecting more...

While I understand that this is frustrating for you, I need to remind everyone that forum support is a free service and has no SLAs attached to any response. If you want to speak with a support engineer, you need to purchase a support incident.

Going back to the problem in hand, are you saying that now you go back to jre1.5.0_11 you continue to get the errors reported in the original post ?

Cheers

Dave

I tried a whole bunch of different Java versions. I also updated the Java versions I had installed originally. But I always get the same results.

Start tomcat server
It starts close to 20 tomcat/java threads without any users logged in.
The number of threads keeps increasing.
Eventually, the number of threads fill up the memory, until:
A) Tomcat server stops responding.
B) Users get a "could not open additional thread" from their browser.

Then I restart tomcat with a killall java in the middle and start over.

So webmail works for hours at a time.
But SAC (I think because it takes too much memory from the start" fails.

I understand that I could, maybe even should, purchase a support incident. But I also don't understand how updating TZData and glibc could break Tomcat and SWA.

glibc is pretty fundamental to the fabric of the Linux universe.

Can you post the results of

Code: Select all

getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION

I know, but it wouldn't let me update tzdata without updating glibc-common, which implied glibc as well.

[support@scalix support]$ getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION
linuxthreads-0.10

This is the cause of the problem. That command should report NPTL.

Sorry if this has been asked before, what OS and kernel version are you running ?

Cheers
