Will Scalix work with Blackberry BES server?

Postby kandersen » Wed Jun 27, 2007 3:36 pm

I was heavily considering using Scalix unlil I started looking into BlackBerry side of it. Sales rep said that it would work with BlackBerry devices but looking through this forum doesn't sound like it does except for a desktop redirector. Am I right on this? We just spent a lot of $$$ on new BB Pearls and BES licenses and flushing that down the toilet isn't going to fly.

I see references to www.notifycorp.com Anyone know what they charge? Is it a per device charge?

BES server not needed

Postby TheDude » Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:26 am

If you buy your Blackberrys from at&t (the biggest sellers of Blackberry) you can use their BES server and it will "scrape" emails from your scalix server and push them to the Blackberry. The at&t servers were just upgraded and the check and push against our Scalix server is so fast, it is as if we have our own BES server.

This method works GREAT for email, however, you will need to integrate the notify product if you want to sync calender and tasks over the air.... But, most users will be fine with syncing calender and tasks via a USB cable as long as their emails are fast, and the email IS fast.

or you can use funambol (www.funambol.com). but the problem is funambol only sync BB with Outlook (not Scalix) via Funambol Blackberry connector.

Stories had it that Scalix had a beta Funambol Scalix connector, which is yet released.....

Notifylink is PIM-able and can support attachments in BB, funambol needs more work on that.

BES server

I forgot to mention that at&t's BES server can auto-config against a scalix server... all the user needs to have is their name and password... A real blessing with non technical users and a time saver for everyone.
