Postfix integration unable to utilize scalix route filtering

Postby potatoinmiri » Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:37 pm

Dear friends,

I managed to integrate postfix successfully with scalix thanks to Document "HowTos/Complete Postfix".

I have antivirus, spamassassin integrated and working fine with postfix and scalix, however i found out i am lacking ways to integrate the internet mail filtering option into the system.

Firstly, i am aware that this option can be implemented by the rules filtering through scalix router and i have tested it fine. However upon integrating postfix with scalix,
all external mails are delivered directly through postfix to the internet, meaning the mails do not pass the scalix router meaning the filtering rules in scalix router cannot be utilized.

Correct me if i am wrong, prior to postfix integration, all mails regardless of external or internal *MUST" pass through scalix router.
However with postfix integration, only mails destinated to local are required to pass through the scalix router, all external mails are heading out of postfix gateway directly, meaning scalix rules cannot filter external mails because from postfix listens to the external interface.

I am not sure if i am right with this, i am just evaluating my option now with postfix integration on a test server, if this doesnt work i think there is no point to use postfix because we want to take full advantage of the convenient rules of the scalix router.

Or if anyone knows if there is any other alternative for internet mail filtering with postfix integration?

thanks for taking time reading my query!

potatoinmiri,

I believe you are right, all incoming/outgoing mails should be going through the Service Router (SR). Since Postfix bypass SR, it can caused issue especially for user quota management.

The problem with this integration is Scalix did not enforced quota for external mail. Here are the scenario :

Let say the user1@mydomain.com quota setting is enforced to "Send warning on outgoing mail when near limit; reject outgoing mail when over the limit", user1@mydomain.com will still able to send outgoing mail to external e-mail account. Sending to local e-mail account is rejected though.

For example user1@mydomain.com (with his mailbox quota has exceeded the limit) is sending mail to user2@mydomain.com and CC a copy to external_user@some-company.com, the mail is able to go through and received on external_user@some-company.com mailbox but not user2@mydomain.com as Scalix will return a bounce message.

So I believe Postfix integration with Scalix posted in the wiki http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... te_Postfix is not a total solution to replace sendmail. There is a flaw there so I think someone should be placing a warning or know issue on the wiki page with that kind of setup.

By the way I also would like to hear if there any chance for Postfix to be able to work with Scalix Service Router (although I know Postfix is not supported)
