Blackberry sync issue again...

Postby Thilo » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:33 pm

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting the BBDM4.2 to connect to Outlook2007 or 2003.
YES, I searched the forum, read the "IntellisyncPatchInstallation.txt" and patched BBDM with the ilxolk.fil.

BBDM still says its offline.

The weird thing aboout it: It worked before. A client-machine had to be set up anew and now doesn't connect anymore.
Other clients still work fine, they're all identical machines with almost identical software.

During install, BBDM asks several questions:

-use BBES/Desktop Redirector or BB Internet Service? I choose BBES
-what kind of BBES? I choose MS Exchange
-Message redirection: I choose redirect by BBES

Is that correct?

When I start BBDM, the Outlook-Connector starts to work, though BBDM says it's offline.

I use Scalix 11.3 on Debian Etch, the Client is a XPSP2-Machine, clean install, no updates. Installing Office- or XP-updates didn't help.

Do you have to install everything in a certain order?
I first installed Outlook, then the connector, checked Outlook for functionality (works fine) and finally the BBDM.

As I mentioned above, it's kinda weird, it's 4.30 now and my mind won't make it anymore... :)
Help is deeply appreciated!

Kind regards,
Thilo

No, you should choose "BlackBerry Internet Service". The Scalix Outlook Plug-in does not emulate Exchange, and unfortunately the Desktop Redirector does not work with it.

When I do that, there is no Email-settings-button - the other clients have one.

In the meantime I set up a Scalix-testserver. I tried to connect to it using the BBDM-settings from my last post - BBDM works there.

Only the productive system with lots of mail, contacts and so on doesn't work with BBDM and only not with the new client...

I just dont't see why...

I do not see how that is possible, but I've never tried it. There is no "BlackBerry/RIM supported" way to sync email with Scalix. Either you have to use the BIS server with email forwarding, as detailed in this post:
http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11841
Or use a third-party solution such as NotifyLink.

Maybe i didn't tell you everything:

The only thing BBDM has to do is to synchronize contacts and calendar by plugging in to the XP-client via usb.
The providers BBES fetches Mail from our Scalix-Mailserver and pushes it wireless to the Blackberry-device.

Anyway, if I choose default options during BBDM installation and let the software only sync calendar and contacts, it usually works the way I want it to.

I found out it is a user-problem: If I tell the outlook-connector to connect to a different useraccount, BBDM works properly. Is there a possibility to "refurbish" or so a users account?
Otherwise I would try to save the users data, delete it and set it up again.

Thanks,
Thilo

Ok, here is how I solved the problem:

Somehow the users account was corrupt.
I don't know the details, but when I renamed the user and created a new account with the old users values BBDM connected to it - without making any changes.

But when I exported the old users data with the sxmboxexp-command and reimported it to the new user, the new account was also corrupted and BBDM refused to work.
So I had to export data folder by folder, what seemed to work. But when I imported the inbox, there was no mail in the new inbox... :(

I was only able to ex- and import folders inside the inbox, but not the mails located directly in the inbox...

Finally I made the old users inbox accessible to the newly created user and copied it using the webmailer.

Now everythings fine ...maybe

Cheers
Thilo
