attachments of exchange mails missing

Postby hj » Wed Aug 06, 2008 9:01 am

Hi everyone,

I copied a lot of mails from the old exchange server to the new scalix server by just copying them from the exchange folders to the new imap scalix folders. that worked fine for mails sent from external users, but I have serious issues with mails that were sent withing the exchange environment, and especially those that also contained attachments.

problem #1:
- in swa, those mails don't have a sender and when selecting them, runtime errors occur
- even though they are displayed as having an attachment, the attachment is not accessible by swa

problem #2 (and this is more serious):
- in thunderbird, they DO have a sender (although written in ""), but those who should have an attachment (a PDF for example), are shown to only have a "winmail.dat" attachment
- in outlook (also using imap), those mails and their attachments are shown perfectly fine

how come there is a difference in attachment handling between these clients? or is the attachment only stored in the outlook pst file, not on the server? looking at the size of the mailbox, attachments are also stored on the server, and attachments of mails sent from external users work either way.

is there a way to get this to work with thunderbird? not being able to access these attachments is a SERIOUS problem for us.
any help would be appreciated.

update: in apples mail.app attachments seem to be fine too. please don't say this is a thunderbird problem, as it shouldn't make any difference where the mail is coming from when it comes to attachment handling, right? there still would be the swa problem too.

another update: I stand corrected, mail.app does have the same problem. so what to do? this is a serious issue.
