Basic LDAP lookup

Postby KKJensen » Tue Jul 03, 2007 1:18 pm

Hi there everyone.

A bit of an off the wall question: I have never done anything specifically with LDAP so I'm still learning but we recently purchased a new Xerox super-duper-photocopier/scanner/dish washer/etc/etc that apparently can email scanned documents to users that it looks up in an LDAP store...

Could someone offer some advice on what I should point it at to get the scalix contact list showing up?

A million thanks in advance.

Point it at the Scalix server, port 389.

The search is o=Scalix

Hope that helps,

thanks for the quick reply...

Is LDAP a service that needs to be running? The web interface for the xerox isn't able to look anyone up with the settings I've got.

IP & port: 192.168.5.2:389
backup ip & port: 0.0.0.0:389
Search Directory Root: o=Scalix
username: sxadmin
password: checked&doublechecked

There's a few kinds of LDAP servers listed: Exchange, Domino, NDS, ADS and Netscape. Are any of these interchangable with Scalix?

It comes back and says "Cannot communicate with LDAP server. Check LDAP server settings and try again.

Is there a way to test if the LDAP info is avilable on the network before introducing the next known of the copy machine?

I suggest you download the LDAP browser at http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~gawor/ldap/ - I find this is a good one if I want to quickly check. Requires a JVM to be installed. This will let you know if the credentials are at least correct, and allow you to browse it manually.

It could also be that it can't understand the LDAP schema (which is where the type probably comes in). If that's the case I would suggest you run a second LDAP server and export the settings from Scalix to there, probably using perl or such. Or maybe the manufacturer can help with this part.

I got it working finally. There was a bunch of optional stuff I was trying to fill in but in the end I just needed the essentials like such'n'such an ip, and the LDAP type (exchange, ads, netscape etc).

I was also using the sxadmin credentials. Once I entered some superuser credentials everything started working.
