Postby mike.moore » Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:27 pm

Is anyone out there using a fax server in their environment. I have a Scalix server in a windows environment and I am looking for a good product that will play nice with Scalix. Anyones thoughts or experiences will be appreciated.

As a basic statement, most fax servers work well with Scalix as they offer some kind of email-to-fax capability. The Scalix MAPI provider also supports the fax: address type in Outlook and will route such emails to the internet gateway automatically so that it can be moved over via SMTP.

However, obviously Linux-based fax solutions are particularly attracive.

As a free/opensource offering, well-known Hylafax running on Linux will work with Scalix.

Two commercial products we've been using in the past:
Vipcom Papageno (www.vipcomag.de) and Ferrari Electronic Office Master (www.ferrari-electronic.de). Both work well with Scalix and optionally offer voice capabilities as well, in addition to the fax features.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Sound very interesting ...

Do you mind telling which Office Master (Ferrari Fax) version did you use?
We tried with the Ferrari Fax Outlook Plugin (Office Master for Windows) which also creates a new Servertype "Ferrari Fax MAPI Transport" as Scalix does, but won't work with Scalix together.
When using Ferrari Mapi with a personal folder in Outlook it works!

So i guess you talk about the Ferrari Fax for Linux product - but on www.ferrari-electronic.de the system requirements talk about "Novell Groupwise" or "Open-Xchange" - so no scalix?

I'm a little confused!

Kind Regards, Martin

It's the version designated for open-eXchange that works; obviously, the Ferrari folks never got around to highlight that it also works with Scalix. It is basically not specific to a mailserver as it simply hooks into sendmail.

Cheers,
