Error: The user information could not be saved.

Postby Kris » Mon Jul 17, 2006 10:37 am

I'm setting up a Scalix Server, and am busy with creating all the users and groups. I'm doing this manually through sac, because our current LDAP setup contains a number of users and group that don't exist any more, or are not being used anymore.

I've added a lot of users and groups today, but now I suddenly run into problems. I tried adding an e-mail address to a user, but when I hit the save button, I get the message: "The user information could not be saved". I tried making changes to other users, all give the same error.

Some more tests I've done:

I can add new users. When I add an e-mail address to this new user and hit save, I get the same error. When I then go to another user, hit No (don't save changes, because that gives an error), and then go back to the user I just created, the e-mail address I added but couldn't save, is still listed. So it saves the changes, but still complains.

I can't delete any user anymore.

Adding/modifying/deleting groups still works fine.

I've rebooted the entire server to make sure everything is started up correctly, but still the same error.

I've also noticed, that my administrator-user (login name administrator), does not have a first name (anymore?). Can't remember if he ever had a first name, but I think so.. because for all users I added, first- and lastname was needed. Also, at the e-mail adresses part it says "Scalix Administrator" <sxadmin@mydomain.com>. Lastname of the admin-users is Administrator, so my guess is that his first name once was Scalix ;) But now it's not, and I'm not able to add it.

I don't know how/where it did go wrong, and don't know how to resolve this problem.. please help :?

The first thing to check is the tomcat logs as detailed in the sticky note at the top of this forum.

This will give us a better idea why this isn't working for you.

Cheers

I've monitored the caa.log file, and this is the result:

Directly after logging in to SAC, I receive those two messages in the logfile:

Code: Select all

2006-07-17 19:39:55,326 ERROR [GetMemberAccessGroupList.createSOAPResponseMessage:245]
2006-07-17 19:39:59,318  WARN [GetUsersList.createSOAPResponseMessage:292] javax.naming.SizeLimitExceededException: [LDAP: error code 4 - Sizelimit Exceeded]; remaining name 'o=scalix'

When I try to add a Firstname to the admin user, and then hit save, I receive this error:

Code: Select all

2006-07-17 19:41:13,614 ERROR [GetMemberAccessGroupList.createSOAPResponseMessage:245]

Hopefully this information helps.

I set the loglevel to DEBUG and tried again to change a user and save the changes. Here the results in caa.log

edit: logfile to big to post here, here's a link: http://www.krietjur.co.uk/caa.log.txt

Looks like the problem is LDAP related. I've logged in using a Java-based ldap-browser. I was able to delete an "omInternetAddr" item from a normal user, but when I try deleting one from the administrator (I've added several e-mail adresses to the admin user, and the problem started when I was adding them) it gives an error:

Code: Select all

01:22:42 PM: Failed to delete 'omInternetAddr' attribute for ldap://scalixserver:389/cn=administrator, o=Scalix
Root error: [LDAP: error code 1 - [OM.LDAP 1000]: directory engine died on read]

The LDAP Daemon logfiles contain the following message:

Does the user have a lot of internet addresses ? If so, we currently have a limit of 512 characters that can cause problem.

Only the first address is used as the outgoing address so that is the only one which would usually need the friendly name comment. All the other addresses are used for incoming messages only so if you have friendly comments for them, you can remove them.

Sorry, couldn't see the sticky note mentioned above.

I am having the same problem, about a month ago I tried without success to create a new working group. I found on one of the forums how to manually remove the group.

The new group only shows up in the "New Groups" filter and if I try to change it it says:
"The Administration Server is not responding. You should check the server logs"

In Administration of server log:

Code: Select all

ERROR Administration(omaddpdl ) 07.19.06 22:45:24
[OM 18015] PDL being added is a duplicate, or a directory
entry is present which has the same name.

<- /build/10.0.1.3/src/bin/pdl/pdl_add.c:964[3,18015]

If I go to Managers for the group it says:
"Could not retrieve the list of users who can modify the list of members for this group."

In my account I am manager of 2 groups which show up in the groups side. On my user credentials under "Manager Of" it shows that I am manager of no groups.

Existing users & groups are fine otherwise.

Hi,

You can try to use omdelent to get rid of this group and then recreate it using SAC.

WARNING: omdelent will delete anything without a warning and can distabilize your system if you are not careful

First run

Code: Select all

omsearch -e cn=*group*

Then using unique attributes from the search use omdelent to delete the entry.

You will have to recreate the group and re-add the members to it afterwards.

Cheers,
Yuri

omdelent & new group creation

Postby KiwiStag » Sun Jul 23, 2006 12:54 am

I once again managed to delete the group and have created a new group with a different name.

I chose the users to add & selected that the new group will not belong to an existing group.

When I went to Finish it came up saying:
Could not set new members for the group.

Now I'm back to where I started off.

Code: Select all

Sorry for my late response. The user had a lot of internet adresses, so that's what caused my problem. Thanks for all help.
