feature request [user modify]

Postby heupink » Sat Dec 24, 2005 7:26 am

I'm not very happy with the "edit user" (whatever it's called) part of sac:

first of all, adding a second email address (and possibly many more edits, haven't tried) is not possible when the user is logged on. Why on earth not? Basically meaning: you have to try 100s of times, or check when users are logged on or off, or force users to logoff to do something rather simple...

second thing is: you are only told that the user cannot be modified when you actually want to save the changes you made. Very annoying. Finding out that you loose all your work, after working on a user for a few minutes. Scalix KNOWS a user is logged on, why not simply disable user editing then..?

But of course: you should be able to edit (at least certain bits of) a user at all times. MS Exchange can...

well, if there wasn't anything to improve, we could just close our doors and leave you with what you have today! ;-)

i could now go into the deep details of why at some point it was designed like this; long story..... short form is that as the Internet Address can be used as a Login Name to fthe system in all clients, it was considered a form of identity change which is not as simple.

anyway, it annoyed us as well - so the next Scalix release - currently in LR and officially hitting the market in Q1/2006 - does not have any restrictions on which fields can be edited through SAC while the user is logged on! :-)

Cheers,
Florian.

dear florian,

That's the kind of messages we enjoy hearing from you :-)

Thanks! (And a happy new year to all that read this!)
