SAC: Can not load serverlist...

Postby SNCJansen » Thu Jul 19, 2007 4:08 pm

Hi,

i've tried scalix on an virtual machine on our w2k3-server, and i like it, but the performance is totally bad on vm -- so i want to move the system on separate hardware.

First try:
1) new machine has same os as vm (opensuse 10.1)
2) via rsync i copied the /var/opt/scalix/ - folder to the new machine, and then installed the scalix-software
3) result: sac says on login: "Serverliste kann nicht geladen werden..."

So, i tried the second version:
1) reinstalled the os, so that the system is clean
2) via rsync i copied the /var/opt/scalix/sx/s - folder to the new machine etc.
3) result: same as first try

Last try:
reinstalled the os, and then
via rsync i copied the following folders:
1) /var/opt/scalix
2) /etc/apache2
3) /etc/opt/scalix-tomcat
4) /opt/scalix* (all 3)
result: still "Serverliste kann nicht geladen werden..."

So, what should i do??? Btw: Same IP, same hostname...
After 6 hours of testing, i am tired an will give up for today...

Thanks for the great piece of software ( and for your help ? :) )

Hi,

It may be worth trying to run the Scalix installer and select to reconfigure the Management Services and Management Agent to see if that helps.

Danny

do it this way....

1. install new os.
2. do default install of scalix as if you were setting up from scratch.
3. shutdown scalix.
4. move the install directories out of the way, i.e. keep a virigin copy (tar it all up then empty the directories).
5. then rsync the data across.
6. make sure uid's for scalix match and all those configs have been setup properly and permissions etc.

That should do it.

Solved Problem!

Postby SNCJansen » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:36 am

Hi les and dannyt,

this is nearly, what i have done now.
here my solution, perhaps a bit to much, but yeah, it runs now:
01 ) new os
02 ) install scalix
03 ) stop all scalix-services and apache
04 ) remove and rsync /var/opt/scalix
05 ) remove and rsync /opt/scalix*
06 ) remove and rsync /etc/opt/scalix*
07 ) remove and rsync /etc/init.d/scalix*
08 ) remove and rsync /etc/apache2
09 ) start all scalix-services and apache
10 ) reconfigure the Management Services and Management Agent (thanks to dannyt)
11 ) omsendin - because sendmail didn't send mails to scalix (why ever)

perhaps this pointlist is helpful for others, having the same problem...
BIG THANKS TO LES AND DANNYT!

the software and now the service has convinced me, so that i will advice my customers using this when they wanna have something like that. i don't expect to much, because of my customers are only small, but who knows...

btw: a performance information:
on the virtual machine in a windows 2003 server, the scalixserver got a dynamic harddrive up to 40gb, 1gb ram and 100% of one processor (dualcore 3,2ghz)
the calender of the boss of my customer has 7000 entries...
on the client (for testing without smartcache) i took 30 seconds for opening the calendar.
on the new machine with 80gb sata, 1gb ram and an old amd xp2000+ the calender only needs 5 seconds to be opened. (always the first time per user, after this it is faster!)
perhaps this information is helpful, too...

Best regards
René
