Please stop requiring an email address for your downloads. I feel bad polluting your database with fake email addresses.

Joako,
1) We do collect email address information on a voluntary basis and add people providing their addresses to our newsletters and support announcements, containing valuable information.
2) As you have noticed correctly, we currently do not verify email address correctness and validity. This is not an oversight, but was a conscious decision on our side.
3) While the license agreement for Scalix Community Edition actually does allow redistribution of the binary packages, the Scalix Logo is a registered trademark and the contents and layout of our website are under Copyright. Therefore, please do stop mirroring our download web page as I really would like to avoid having to pass this on to our legal team. I've deleted your post with the link to your page.
I appreciate your cooperation,
Florian.

Providing the email is not voluntary. The Scalix logo is hosted at

Nevermind, no hard feelings. Now I just put a link to the Scalix site.

So why do you then use one of those generated download links that gets done after passing through the download form page for your footer?
(It won't work for more than a couple hours I believe!)
If you want to repeat a Scalix download link anywhere, please do use
http://www.scalix.com/downloads

And when you go to that page it takes you to
http://www.scalix.com/community/downloa ... equest.php
which REQUIRES an email address.
Let me as you the "Key" in this URL how often is it supposed to change, or why did it change the other day?
... link deleted/florian ...

yes, and the only official path to the download page is via the email form; at this point, we have no plans to publish direct links to the downloads page. The key actually changes with every separate request I believe, I don't know exactly how the web guys have implemented that.
Again, the only link that we recommend for publishing is
www.scalix.com/downloads. Download for community edition then takes you through the email address form. Again, emal address entry is required, but not validated - if you want to put in
mickeymouse@donaldduck.org, feel free to do so; a good number of people choose voluntarily to give us their real addresses, because they have a real interest in the product.
We are a commercial company and we need to make money by selling off licenses for the commercial version of the product as well as support and services. I do think we provide a lot more product value at no cost than anybody else in our market. I don't think it is too much to ask for some information in exchange, for statistical purposes and also to provide you with good-to-know information about our product range.
I will edit your posts and delete those links as I find re-publishing them here inappropriate.

Note that, as you've drawn that comparison a couple of times, Zimbra does not provide any unregistered downloads for their full product - you'll actually need to register for full evaluation with your real contact data there; their community edition lacks the Outlook connector and major features while our community edition product has all of that and the difference between CE and SBE/EE is mostly in the license key.

The url,
http://www.scalix.com/community/downloa ... 96Jg%3D%3D still has not changed! It only changed when I posted in my signature... isn't that weird?

Actually I don't know what exactly the web guys based this on, but .... you're missing the point I guess - It doesn't really matter how we implement our website - I think we've set a fair policy and that's what I'm referring to, nothing else. The rest is form-follows-function, more-or-less (I'm german, just arrived in Berlin for the CCC, so a little bit of Bauhaus never hurts!)

Ah... I'm Norwegian all we ever learned to do was hate others, mainly the Swedes.

well, for me that is pretty much the opposite - I've been told not ever to hate anybody - makes life easy!
And, FWIW, I guess Germans have been long-time friends with both Norwegians and Swedes, right?
