Status Feedback Request

Postby jillrae » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:54 am

In the world of software applications, we always hit s a few bumps in the road. But when the bumps open up into a fairly large pothole, a little PR feedback would be nice. I know it is our techie nature to dive right in and figure out what went wrong and get it fixed as soon as possible to get our customers up and running, and I'm sure this is what is going on behind the scenes at Scalix tech.

Is it possible to let us know when, or if, a patch is in the works and maybe even an ETA on delivery? Remember we, the IT support people of your customers, have play PR to keep our users happy as well.

Thanks for all your hard work in makeing a really good, affordable product.

Hi jillrae,

thanks for your feedback; however, to understand and respond to this, could you be a bit more specifc?

In general, if you talk about some issues in the initial Scalix 11 GA release, we already did release a maintenance update release, 11.0.1. This has been communicated to the forum, please see viewtopic.php?p=26208 for details.

If you check out our bugtracking system, you will see that we're looking at and working on a number of further issues. I would recommend that you use a query similar to

http://bugzilla.scalix.com/buglist.cgi? ... _based_on=

to see what we are working on for the next maintenance update, currently scheduled for release in early March. As you will see from these search results, a good number of issues listed therein have been resolved already and we're working hard to make this list even longer.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Florian,

I am referring to the maintenance upgrade 11.0.1. Before that we were running on 10.0.5 and things were going along quite well. A few issues with 10.0.5, but more just "nice to have" things with the exception of the wierd calendar viewing problem.

The upgrade to 11.0.0 and 11.0.1 was made after I returned from the Scalix Admin Class in January as some of the upgrades would "enhance my user's experience", but the existing issues with SWA has turned it in to a less than desirable situation.

I worked through several of the initial issues with the 11.0.1 upgrade on the user forums and at least got the SWA up to a mediocure at best level. No I am far from being a linux expert, but I am able to analyse a problem and provide useful information to support and in turn learn lots from the steps taken to correct it.

I found most of the SWA problems listed in the Bugzilla reports: ( for example, the drag & drop highlighting more than one folder, some of the re-fresh issues on the mail headers, etc).
I was not aware the next maintenace update was due out in March. Just I have to keep my company up and running until that time and that is proving to be difficult.

The "work around" has been the installtion of Sclaix Connect for Outlook on all the network user's PCs. This does not address our traveling user's needs as well as the SWA did and is not the client of choice for our company. And the clendar problem has follwed the 11.0.1 SWA client. (I posted this and was told it could not be replicated. I even brought screen shots and showed my instructors at the Scalix training and they couldn't belive it. But it is real.)

The bottom line is: SWA in version 10.0.5 worked well, SWA in 11.0.1 is unusable for our company. I can't go back to 10.0.5, so am I "stuck" with 11.0.1 until a fix is provided? Can I at least go back to 11.0.0?

Hi Jillrae,

thanks for this further information; for the March release, we're looking into a couple of SWA issues as well. Generally, we have fixed a few for the 11.0.1 patch, so quality there should be better than 11.0.0. For that reason, I would advise not to go back.

From our internal perspective, SWA 11.0.1 works reasonably well. I'm using it as I write this (on FF2.0/Mac).

I'd really be interested to hear about the full list of SWA issues you've run into. Could you please provide me with a list of issues (in bugzilla or not) that affect your SWA users?

I'll be available by email for that, my address is well-known, in case not for you, it's florian -aaaattttt--- scalix --dott- com.

thx,
Florian.
