Feature Request: Scalix Client

Postby jleq » Sat Jun 17, 2006 6:36 pm

In order to truly compete with Exchange and Groupwise, Scalix really needs a dedicated client application. Most businesses that I work with would be migrating to Scalix from a more simple mail system, such as a plain IMAP server. It is hard to justify the price of Scalix (except the free edition, of couse) when it requires an additional external client such as Outlook.

While Scalix Web Access is acceptable for people who are on-the-road, I simply don't think it is fast enough for daily local use.

A locally installable client could offer other benefits as well, such as instant messaging support and incoming message notifications.

What do you think?

And most bussiness which i know - use Outlook and wants to continiue to use it ;-)
So - the world is full of variety ...
IMHO Scalix first need to stabilize Outlook and Evolution connectors

Building own dedicated client is very big task.
I think that the right direction is Scalix to publicate communication protocols and to call Open Source comunity for building such kind of client .
