Hi

I want to make a small Community about the Scalix in german language.
The objective for me and my team is that to make Scalix more popular in Europe.
I also want to write some howtos in german language so I habe some questions:
- Am I allowed to use the name "Scalix" in my howtos?
- Am I allowed to use the grafics like the scalix logo?
- Are there any special conditions I have to notice?

Greetings
Witti

I can't comment on the graphics etc but I'll make sure the right people can respond to your question.

From what we can determine, Scalix is very popular in Germany and is supported through our partner network.

Would you like me to set up a German language section of the community forum here on the Scalix site ?

Cheers

Dave

A german section sounds fine.
Thanks for you answer.

I'm looking forward to post in the german section next time ^^

Witti,

being with Scalix, obviously German and located in Germany, I find this whole discussion quite important to have.

Now, we could certainly do a separate German area on this forum; I do agree with Dave that the number of customers and users of Scalix we have in Germany would generally justify this.

On the other hand, doing this obviously prevents our many non-German speaking users and some of our own personnel from easily reading and responding to posts; obviously, also for the German/English speaking forum users it makes searching for articles more difficult as one would have to use keywords in multiple languages to find the most relevant entries.

So there is obviously the chance of dilution - which I see as a disadvantage.

Before we take any final decision, I believe we'd like to hear more input on this from other German-speaking forum users; given all that is on the table, would you prefer to add a German section to this forum or should we have a language preference for English to keep everybody on the very same page.

Thanks for your input,
Cheers,
Florian.

Of course there are always some disadvantages in going multilanguage, but think of the advantages:

- Most admins wish to have a supportforum in their native language, just because you can describe problems better in your native language

- Finding an answer for your specific problem is easier because as a native speaker you can easily guess specific keywords they might have used in their posts

- The inhibition, testing a programm where support is only in a foreign language, decreases

Scalix is available in english and german right now, so your main customers speak either english or german. So why don't support them both?
If you had no german speaking employees, ok. But i know you have some (at least 1) ;)

The last, but important fact, is: How expensive would it be to set up a german section in this board and test the response?
- 10 minutes?

Let's await some further discussion on different opinions....

Little factoid though... actually, Scalix has more than a handful German-speaking employees! :-)

Cheers,
Florian. (Einer davon!)

Just my few cents here.... I would be very careful not to undervalue the dillution of information which would take place.

Except for those who are bilingual, you would have to have every question, answer and KB article in two places. Functionally, you have doubled the required effort to provide an equally valuable repository of solutions and support to the general user community. Just looking at the scope/size of the Scalix forum - it may be a very challenging proposition for Scalix...

English for runaways oder so ähnlich

Just think about it... German Forum would be fine.

So oder so tolle Software! Weiter so!

Martin

PS.: Ist schon interessant eine Diskussion über eine deutsches Forum in englischer Sprache... Sorry about speeking german! ;-)

I tend to agree with kali. There is a tremendous amount of really useful information here.
It would be a shame to see that split up.

My $0.02 = $.0.04 so far :)
