New phpBB version - feedback?

Postby acodring » Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:49 pm

Hello all,
You may have noticed by now we've upgraded phpBB here during a server migration.
Re-indexing is ongoing as I write, but hopefully you'll find things snappier.
We'd welcome your feedback, especially if the upgrade broke something you relied on.

Also, would you use RSS feeds if we turn it on? Make your voice heard - see the attached poll!

Cheers,
Andrew

I'm unable to search for the words auto and deleted as well as deleted folder items. It says that these words are to common. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to find anything in regards to scalix system if the words them selves are common.

So, I'm not liking it to much right now.

The http link on the signature seems to be disabled on the server side.
Mine for example, only shows "Image",instead of the actual icon as I had before.
Thanks

A view to the old server logs should show the usage of the RSS feeds as they where turned on.
Speaking for me: Yes, RSS feeds are useul for integration into a Bookmarks Toolbar as well as into the Scalix Proxy Folders (I would have to find another usage example for the Scalix Trainings if they are turned off  ).

Like mouseclone, I'm having trouble searching. I guess the search engine hasn't finished initializing. Both "ldap" and "password" return "too common." :)

But thanks for changing to PHPBB. It's familiar to me. Having set up a few of these myself in the past, I know it's a lot of work, so I'm not nagging about the search thing. I know you'll get it ... :)

Yeah, kill the stopwords list please. ssl, mapi and port all return too common and I can't force with +ssl etc. So how do I work out if I can use MAPI on an SSL port?

Agreed the current setting is not helpful.
After disabling the 'common word' limit we need to do a full re-index so it could be a while (a day or two?) before you see results.
Thanks for letting us know, and thanks for your patience.

I don't see how I can watch topics with the new version....?

Digests, RSS should be back tomorrow

Postby acodring » Thu Apr 02, 2009 12:42 am

We did some quick sanity checking on digest and RSS modules today, and should be able to unleash them on you tomorrow.

When you refer to 'watch topics', do you mean via RSS or another method?

Nevermind, I think I'm thinking of another forum that I frequent. But it is a nice feature, you can watch a topic for replies...without having to actually reply to the thread.

Try the "subscribe to this topic" link at the bottom of the page, next to the checkbox with a check in it.

I really liked the "show posts since last visit" feature, but I think with activated RSS-Feeds I can live without it.

What, exactly, does "Subscribe to this topic" do? I used to get an email notification when I was "watching" a topic, but no more ... And I really liked that feature, as obviously I was interested in the outcome of that issue -
