Hi,

I presume, that the Scalix Community Edition ist mainly used to retrieve mails from an external ISP and also to send mails from the external ISP.
Therefor it would be pretty cool, if there would be a possibility to configure that into Scalix using the webadmin configuration tool, instead of having to configure postfix and sendmail manually, what seem sto be a bit more complicated.

Wouldn`t it be worth a thought, to have this function integrated into the next scalix version?

Scalix line of products, Community Edition or not, can be used for many purposes. I don't share your presumption. But I agree that *some users* within a Scalix system would like the functionality of being able to aggregate all their "3rd party" emails under a unified system. So, if I understand correctly, you'd like a tool from within either SAC or SWA to configure/manage fetchmail (for example) for the users.

Things to consider:
1) external ISP individual emails are beyond the control of scalix and vice-versa.

2) *assuming* that you have a setup in which *every single* scalix user has a matching AuthID/password on the 3rd party system, and you only have *ONE* 3rd party system to access, there could be indeed a tool from within SAC to facilitate sxadmin job to do this on behalf of all users. If there is a miss-match already, as little as it may be, such as a password change policy for example at either side, or multiple ISPs, there comes trouble tor the the sxadmin.

3) On the other hand, this could be much more easily accomplished at the individual user level, via SWA. Each user could configure his/her own scalix environment to fetch email from as many different sources as they see fit, and provide different login credentials to each of them, as well as parameters such as the frequency at which this "retrieval" is done.

I believe this could be done by a -plug-in* for scalix. There is provision from within SAC to manger plugins at the system level, that could be made available to users. It so happens that I have NEVER seen a plugin of any kind for scalix.

On a side note, I configured a virtual windows server in our facility with individual OL accounts and typical sync plugins from gmail and yahoo, for example. OL on these accounts are constantly running, and keeping up with email and calendar entries amongst all accounts, and you can choose the direction and priority of the sync process.

at the moment, I have Open SBS Groupware.
In can configure Open SBS without any problem to collect my emails from my ISP Mailadresses and also store them for me.
Also I can configure Open SBS to send via the smtp server from my ISP.
This basicly works a dream and is based on scalix.

The entire configuration is done over a web interface, what makes it fairly easy to use.

My advantage on this is, that all my emails are stored locally on my server and my client computers can crash or need to reinstalled, but my emails are still there.
It alls works including the Scalix connector.

Only problem is, that I have a Compaq Proliant server DL360 G2 in my basement. But the free versin of open sbs dosn`t like the smart array 5i controller iin the proliant.

So, yes, I would like a possibility to configure scalix in a way, that somebody not affine to linux and console based configuration can do it.

You can install webmin and use that to configure fetchmail, though I haven't worked with webmin in a while.

yeah, I tried that aswell, but the configuration oder webmin is not so easy either.
