Hi, I have a mail system in place using Exim4 which is driving me nuts so far as it keeps sending out random reciept messages to people.

Since I also require th need for an MS Exchange like environment to work with MS Outlook and Evolution, mainly shared contacts and calenders with mail accounts for each indivual user through smarthost. So say user1 email = ...@isp.com user2 email = ...@yahoo.com.

I just want to confirm that Scalix will do all this for me and also if I will still get local mail with Scalix setup; as in cron job feedback and logcheck etc.

I have read documentation on it so this is just to confirm really as I'm almost ready to install!

Just am more concerned about the local mail though as Scalix would not be too happy running with Exim together.

System is Debian Etch

I am not sure what you are asking here.

do you want Joe@yourdomaiun.local to retrieve mail from joe@isp.com
and mary@yourdomain.local to retrieve mail from mary@yahoo.com

If this is the case then a solution using Scalix can be put together.
However Scalix does NOT support Debian. You have three choices
Either use
Xandros Server 2 (Debian derivitive) which is supported
CentOS (Free Redhat Derivitive) which is supported
Use Debian install instruction on the Scalix wiki but zero support offered

Xandros server 2 is commercial which one needs to pay for
CentOS is not Debian
Debian install looks like option however when you say no support do you mean that if I post in forum no one will help?

Yes you can redirect user@local to user@scalix. Scalix has its own proprietry message store. It dose not use exim, sendmail or any other mailbox as its message store. You can certainly email reports from the kernel root or any other OS level user and use /etc/aliases to redirect the messages to Scalix.

If you go down the Debian path there is good instructions to help you along your way. If you post issues to the forum. You may get help. If it is a pure Scalix issue thaen you probably will. If your issue is bacuase of the interaction of Scalix with the OS, and Scalix interacts heavily with the OS at different levels, then you would be limiting yourself to the other 5 people who have done the same install to help you out if they are still around. Presonally if I see a Debian request come throug I delete it cause it normally takes a lot of background work to understand the issue that may apply to ony 5 other people. So its pot luck with Support. One of the head Scalix developers is good with Debian but you most certianly can't gaurentee to get his attention for the same reasons as above.

I have just found out that Zimbra which is like Scalix has a Debian build so it might be better me going with that.
