I understand your point, but the implementation of these feeds are just for the convenience of all parties. So they can from at a glance review what they have coming up over the next few days, weeks, etc. As stated before the iCal standard allows the embedding of a URL into the feed for each event. A simple click on the event, and the tech / supervisor can be taken directly to application. The ics feed is not going to give them enough information to complete the task or job, so they are going to have to login to the application anyways to get that info.

Cool, that's good. Is this an inhouse application or are there any standard applications (that you can point me to, out of interest) that provide such feeds?, Also, just to be clear, from a technical perspective, is this 'webcal' stuff, i.e. just something that you http-GET to and that comes back as a text/calendar "single large ics file"?

A couple of these are custom written applications by another company. But you are correct the idea is to use an http-GET to a single ics feed. These applications do remove jobs / tasks from the ics file after they are set to a certain state (i.e. archived, completed, etc).

We are developing an application that has this type of feed as well. It is available at: http://www.customtrack.net - With a demo feed of: http://demo.customtrack.net/A-A3KZ9P3W.ics - The demo resets itself every 4 hours, and there are only presently 3 appointments within that feed, but it will give you an idea of have the other applications work. The standard of the feed seems to be what we are using, where a random string is generated per user for a semi-secure feed. This feed is generated on the fly a php script and then using mod_rewrite we spit the output to what appears to be an .ics file.

Reviewing the application above may help give you some more insight, as the others work very similar, just for different industries, but all are service related. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Sorry to be so cheeky but we're now in the second week of 2008 and would appreciate it if we could have a quick update on the current timeline for 11.3 release.

Thanks

True to form I got the Enterprise notification about five minutes after I posted the second message. :D

Good news all round though as I've just installed the Community version on my other server and apart from the fact I didn't read the java version message properly and screwed up the install all went fine. I'm now the proud owner of a 11.3 server.

As I have been asked about the 5 Extra User Promotion and what happened to it in the light of the fact that Scalix 11.3 slipped by a few weeks...

It exists, is alive and kicking - if you order a 20-Premium-User-Starter-Pack of Small Business-Edition (SBE-20), you actually get 25 Premium Users for the same price. This is to offer an easy upgrade path for those using Scalix Community Edition, wanting to upgrade to 11.3 and beyond and require more than 10 users.

The special offer is valid for all orders placed from now until the last day of February 2008 (hey, it's a leap year - one extra day!)

Cheers,
Florian.

Earlier in this topic it was stated that Tasks support in webmail would be available in mid 2008. What is the current estimate of when this will happen ? Thanks.

it always depends... :-)

No, seriously, tasks support in SWA is on the list for Scalix 11.5, as discussed previously. The final release timeframe for 11.5 is still t.b.d., as we added a bit more functionality to 11.4 then originally planned and subsequently came out about 4-6 later than the original plan, I'd think that we're now looking at late Q3 or so for 11.5, depending on how things go.

Stay tuned,
Florian.

Nice to hear that it's planned (in Qx/200x) again and again and again... since years. I'll still beleve it, when it's realy released. It's sad but this will be a feature in our decision to buy or to kick scalix (50 cal). For us it's not realy a problem, because there are some other groupwares like scalix on the market, and some of them have a similar gui like scalix, and one (with a similar windows-connectivity) has a better linux-connectiviry (supports more than the gnome-mail-client evolution (for kde-users evolution is not realy an alternavie (leaks a lot of functionality)).

11.5

Postby declanmullen » Sat Sep 27, 2008 8:03 pm

Hi Florian,

In addition to Tasks support in SWA, what else is expected to be included in the 11.5 release ?

Thanks,
Declan

This is actually the only committed new feature at this time. Some other stuff we're working on, but that may or may not make it based on timing. Besides that, the focus is on performance and some stability improvements and possibly some updated platform support (e.g. SLES11 replacing SLES9 in case Novell releases in time)

You'll have to stay tuned for more,
Florian.

debian is an unsupported community platform from our perspective; there are plans to improve installation on debian-based platforms in general, however this will require a complete redo of the installer infrastructure and will most likely not happen in a minor release.

If it's realy realized in 11.5 then this will be a good news.

florian wrote:the focus is on performance and some stability improvements

Yes. Performance is a other important thing. Since some releases i've got the bad feeling that the system is getting slower from release to relase (but this can be a subjective feeling). Scalix is going realy slow when a lot of mails are in one folder. The IO-Load is quite heavy when I start sac. This takes minutes to load.

I run an old SLOX 4.1 as well and the resume is that scalix is realy slower than SLOX and SLOX has more users and eMails inside.

But I don't want to write only negativ things: the Scalix-WebClient is still a petty cool WebClient-Gui. Good work!

Kind regards...
