Future of Collaboration

Postby korstad » Mon May 21, 2007 4:21 pm

I have been using Scalix for some time not. Fantastic stuff. There are definitely some great collaboration tools with task and calendar sharing.

In my humble opinion, the next step or the future of collaboration is a bit more. I am also running an Asterisk server. I would love to have “click to talkâ€

Small typo...

I have been using Scalix for some time now.

Scalix has been a great experience for me. Just like to see it stretch out a bit more.

We use a Cisco IP Telephony solution.
With the Cisco one, you can get your voicemails delivered to your Inbox as a WAV file, or you can get your emails delivered to your voicemail (apparently the system "reads" your emails and leaves them in your voicemail). I have seen these features, they are pretty slick. Unfortunately, the Cisco solution only works with Exchange. I also would love to see Scalix jump some of these walls.

Unified Massaging

Postby korstad » Tue May 22, 2007 8:44 am

I have worked with and deployed Asterisk as well as Cisco Call Manager with Meeting Place. Both are very capable products with voice mail delivery to email, which I am currently using with Asterisk to Scalix.

I have found the Cisco CM & Meeting Place in conjunction with Exchange a very useful tool(s) for collaboration, far beyond voice mail email to a user.

I would love to see similar possibilities with Asterisk and Scalix (Unified Messaging). Even just a small subset, such as click to talk on contacts or 10 digit numbers and schedule future meetings with several contacts within Scalix via email and/or calendar. The ROI would be significantly greater considering the deployment cost of a Cisco CM, Unified Meeting Place and Exchange solution.

I think I heard some noise on this with Zimbra and Asterisk. But being a Scalix users with time invested in a current working solution that I am very happy with, I would like to hear some of that noise over here.

This is the future of “Collaborationâ€

I have to agree that Call Manager integration would be a major win for Scalix.
We have just completed a CCM install, and the feature set is great - I really
don't want to have to install Exchange to get full (or even most) functionalitiy out of it.

My $0.02...
