SUSE 9.3 -> 9.4.2 upgrade problem

Postby peterz » Thu Dec 22, 2005 4:59 pm

I'm attempting this upgrade on:
- SUSE 9.3
- Upgrade from 9.4.0
- 512 MB on Pentium 4, 1.8Ghz.

Upgrading from 9.4.0 to 9.4.2, during the system check, the filesystem check fails

Debug installation message displayed:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INFO:merlin:System check start
DEBUG:root:This host has the following IP addresses: ['66.93.64.34']
DEBUG:root:This machine's host name 'mail.egad.com' and IP address '66.93.64.34' is set in DNS correctly
INFO:merlin:Network interface is actually eth0
DEBUG:root:Checking DHCP for interface eth0
ERROR:merlin:Operation failed: Network check failed -- (97, 'Address family not supported by protocol')
INFO:merlin:Operation passed: Filesystem check passed
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unable to proceed to next step in upgrade installation.

Hi peterz,

This is strange that you are encountering this error on an upgrade. Did you by chance upgrade your OS to a 64 bit version of SUSE? Or have you modified your network interface to support IPv6? What is the output of ifconfig (please post)?

Is tomcat running when you start the upgrade. You might try adding

-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

to JAVA_OPTS in $TOMCAT_HOME/bin/setclasspath.sh.

and restarting tomcat, then run the installer again. To get more verbose logging start the installer with --debug.

Regards,
Don
