Problems after OpenSuse 10.2 and Scalix 11.2 upgrades

Postby pinnks » Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:01 pm

I have been using Scalix on a 10.1 Suse machine for about a year and think it is fantastic.

Having noticed a version available for SUSE 10.2 I took the plunge over the Christmas break to upgrade. Everything appeared to go well - much to my surprise - and we began using the new versions.

However, I have noticed a few issues as time has gone on.
1. It is not always possible to access SAC and/or webmail. I am not that familiar with the command line commands and have therefore used the install programme to reconfigure Scalix. This then gives access for a time but then something must crash and it is lost. Reconfiguring solves the problem for a while.

2. Scalix does not appear to start up automatically on booting the Linux box. Again, I have used the method described above to gain access.

3. A user informed me over the weekend that he could not send mail to the Internet. Everything looks fine but the mail neve arrives. I am using a dynmaic IP address on the server but have been for a year without problem (apart from a couple of gmail and similar providers). I have done some tests and I too cannot send external mail, or mail using the external address, even if local to the internal domain.

There are a few posts on similar issues but as all I did was upgrade Linux and Scalix on a working system I am at a loss where to look.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and/or suggest what other information you might need to dig deeper into the problem?

Thanks

I have been doing a little more digging on these issues but still do not have answers, so help would be appreciated. In the same order:

1. This seems to be a problem with SWA - outlook still connects and receives mail (also sends mail but never leaves the system) but I do not know why it keeps dying or how I can restart it without using the Scalix install programme and reconfiguring only SWA.

2. This appears also to be the same issue as in 1. above (though not 100% certain on this)

3. This seems to be the same issue as being discussed here - http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9774&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 as I get the same error message in the log and also appear to have mails stuck in /var/spool/mqueue. Apologies for the duplication. I'll follow that thread and see if the solution helps my problem

I am sort of getting the feeling that I am talking to myself on this thread but hey, as long as it works...

My web access seems to have stabalised itself. I rebooted the box yesterday and found that scalix still doesn't start automatically. Noit a big issue as long as I know. I started things manually and they are still running nearly 24 hours later - a recent record.

The only thing I can think is that I had been preparing Scalix for a new additional domain name that was in the process of transfer from another host and waiting for the DNS change to propogate the internet. Now that has happened the SWA seems stable. Coincidence or backed by some valid reason?

I also seem to have a solution to point 3, so I guess this can be classed as solved.
