You mean both Scalix Connect for Outlook and a POP3 client? Works for me out of the box ...

What is happening on your side?

Is there something within the Scalix configuration I need?

After seting up the connector within Outlook - I click on advance and enter the FQDN of the scalix server - wait about 20-30 seconds then I get a POP-UP saying:

"Server unavailable due to network disconnection."

Is there a setting I need to activate? I was reading about the PAM - I haven't touched them - but wasn't sure if it could be something there?

Hi

Yep there is a setting you need. It is called DNS. You need to set up your internal DNS such tht your workstations can resolve the fqdn of your scalix server.

Mike

DNS doesn't appear to be the problem...

check iptables -L and showed ALLOWED smtp and such...

but then I ran the security tool:

/usr/bin/system-config-securitylevel-tui

Turned off firewall and everything works now....

There is a bit of an ambiguity here:
How to interpret "configure SCALIX to allow POP3 and Connector connections"

1) If you refer to the scalix server, as said by Valerion, "out of the box" the server allows for connections under the following protocols: POP3, IMAP (from OL, Thunderbird, Evolution and a many other client applications ) as well as the so called *scalix connector* for OL or Evolution (on linux) .

2) If you refer to the scalix client, under OL you have to choose either POP3, IMAP or the so called *scalix connector*. They are mutually exclusive, so you can't have POP3 and Connector connections unless you create different OL profiles and chose which one you want when the application is started.

Your question initially was not that clear, that's why I didn't answer. But based on your most recent post I'm inclined to believe your *scalix connector* for OL is prevented from communicating with the *scalix server* because the port 5729 between client and server is blocked. You can confirm this with the command telnet FQDN 5729. If you don't see a smiling face or a couple of odd characters at the prompt shift your attention to the firewall rules.
