Thus it was spake to me:

"If you are upgrading, make a backup of the /var/opt/scalix directory as this is the data directory and then you can start the installer. It will determine if you are upgrading or installing and will import your mail store."

and so I ask....
OK, I have a copy of my /var/opt/scalix directory from my old server.

Will this work moving from 10.0.1.25 to 11.1.0.45?

Where shall I place it on my new server such that the installer will recognize and update it?

Do I need to do anything with ompatchom?

Will this move calendar data, groups, puplic directories as well as the mailstore?

Is there actually a documented procedure anywhere to follow?

I don't think it's documented anywhere, but I have done it a few times (sometimes slower than others)

1) Create a user and group named scalix on the server. Set the home dir to /var/opt/scalix
2) Copy the old image here, making sure that the files in /var/opt/scalix have their correct permissions and ownerships (most should be owned by user scalix group scalix)
3) Install Scalix 11.1.0, and choose to retain your old mailstore.

Scalix will do all the hard work of upgrading for you.

Issues I have had afterwards (mostly due to me learning):

1) /opt/scalix/global not updated correctly (this can be fixed manually)
2) The tomcat container copied into the mailstore before the upgrade starts, causing the web services not to run. Uninstalling the web services and re-installing them fixes this.
