dear forum,

I've added some users via the web interface. I've selected a the correct emailaddress from the pulldown menu in the webinterface. (there was only one option in the pulldown menu, but anyway)

When sending mails from this user id, the reply address is NOT what I have selected in the webinterface, but instead: test1@scalix.our.domain.name (note the faulty 'scalix' bit)

Is this because I'm using the trial version..? Hope not...?

How change this behaviour?

Messages sent via Outlook will take the first internet address that is defined for the user.

Use omshowu on that user to see what internet addresses are defined.

but i'm using the scalix webinterface... and here is the output of omshowu on test1:
(note: here the emailaddress is CORRECT!!) (and yet, when the message arrives, the reply address is test1 t. test [test1@scalix.intech.unu.edu] (so: WRONG)

How is this possible?

I understood that to be the Web Admin Console.

Using SWA, you can select what name to use for From/Reply To by going to File->Preferences.

The other thing to check is that you don't have a mismatch between the SYSTEM directory and the user directory.

On the server, run the command:

omsearch -e s=test/g=test1 -m INTERNET-ADDR


Looking at the address user@scalix.domain.com, did you import this address via ommigu ?

never ran this command. created three users via the admin console (test1/test2/test3), changed nothing, and yet all three users show the same behaviour...

strange, eh..?

In that case, this looks like you may have masquerading enabled in your sendmail configuration on that machine.

Can you check your sendmail.cf for the DM line ?

there it says: DMscalix.intech.unu.edu

I don't remember having set anything there. and I KNOW for a fact that the dnsname scalix.intech.unu.edu does not exist... (so: i can't imagine myself typing that)

did install take a default somewhere that I missed?

anyway: what SHOULD the line read? empty?

also the line C{G}scalix.intech.unu.edu is wrong i guess?

and Cwlocalhost scalix.intech.unu.edu?

The Scalix installation does not make any changes to the DM line in sendmail.cf, this is something that is added manually by an administrator.

I cannot advise you on what to put there because a lot depends upon your mail routing, DNS and MX records.

If you are not sending external messages from local unix users on that server then masquerading is not necessary.

The only point I can make is an obvious one. When a Scalix user sends mail from ws046.intech.unu.edu, your DNS records have to ensure that any reply will come back to the correct server.
