We had up to now a Scalix 9.2 server running (on SuSe 9.3).
Unfortunately the server crashed. Happily we have a backup.
We would like to install now on the new server the current Scalix version.
What would be the best proceeding to integrate the old Scalix data (9.2) to the new system (11.0.3)?

I think you should first do a Scalix 9 install and use your existing mailstore. Then, upgrade to Scalix 10 and from 10 you can upgrade to Scalix 11.

Version 10.0.5 is still available for download from the main website download page.

Hi!

The only recommended upgrade procedure from Scalix 9.x to 11.x is to first upgrade from
Scalix 9.x to Scalix 10.x and then upgrade Scalix 10.x to Scalix 11.x. I would suggest you
to upgrade to 11.0.4 that has just been released.

If you have a backup, try to install Scalix 10.0.5 restoring the message store from the copy
of backup you have intact, then upgrade this server from Scalix 10.0.5 to Scalix 11.0.4.

I hope the backup you have has permission and ownership restored.

Step to restore the server from a backup could be:
1. Untar the latest backup in the new server, at /var/opt/scalix i.e. same location,
2. Create user and group for Scalix with same UID and GID as the one in old system,
3. Start Scalix installer on new server and let it pick the existing message store.

This would restore all users and message store. Feel free to reply with your concerns.

Hi,
I´ve installed 10.0.5 over my backup. Before that, I adapt the host name and permissions.
The system is now running, but I cant login into webmail.
Error Message: Cannot connect to the Mailserver.....the Mail on.... appears to be down.

On the console, I cant run any scalix commands (command not found).

Hi!

The URL you should use to access webmail should be http://server/webmail for SAC you
need to use http://server/sac. You need not add :8080 after server name.

Can you check the installer log that you would find at /var/log. Check if the installation
completed successfully, and that you didn't get any error. Also send the result for the
command:
rpm -qa | grep scalix
/opt/scalix/bin/omstat -a
/opt/scalix/bin/omstat -s

Based on the above error, can you check the contents of the files:

/opt/scalix/lib/version
/var/opt/scalix/sys/version

Also, check if the result for the command omvers show same version (10.0.5.3) for all
consistently.

Also, run the command to resolve the version inconsistencies, once you have
done this try restarting Scalix Server using the command sequence below:

Check the result of omstat -a and omstat -s, see if the Scalix Server services
have now started or are enabled.

Hi Chris!

Use the command ommakeom to create a Scalix instance, use the options -h and -d.
Make sure that the hostname you mention is the same as the one that existed earlier and
option -d should have value /var/opt/scalix.

Refer to the man pages of ommakeom for details.

unfortunately I cant find the file /etc/opt/scalix/instance.cfg.

When I run the Scalix installer to reconfigure the system, I get the same error like in this post.
"Fatal error occured: Msg: ('An error occurred running', '/opt/scalix/bin/omshowmn', 'exit status', 98)"
