Upgrade 10 >11: error at configuring web applications

Postby mitsch » Mon Apr 16, 2007 6:30 pm

Hi,

I want to upgrade Scalix 10.0.0 from a FC4 machine to a blank CentOS4.4 with scalix 11.

I first tar-ed my /var/opt/scalix directory and put it on the new machine. The installation find the message store and change the file-structure.

At configuring time the server installation breaks with error: Fatal error occured: Msg: An error occurred configuring Web applications -- check the log for errors.

It's the same error-message with GUI or --cli.

Here the end of log-file (domainname changed):
    ALINA_HOME= /var/opt/scalix/ml/tomcat )

There is an user from the Scalix 10 installation on sys02. The new servers hostname is sys03 ! Is this a problem ? I cannot change the hostname from the old Server - there are other needed processes running.

Thanks for help
Dieter

You can not change the machine name or IP when you do the install.

You can do it after the install with the following HowTos:

Code: Select all

http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?title=HowTos/ChangeFQDN
http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?title=HowTos/ChangeIP

There is alot of information about servernames and IPs kept in the config files.

Hope that helps,
Shredder

Hi!

Ideally this issue
http://bugzilla.scalix.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12657
has already been fixed.

Similar issue could be seen at:

Thanks,

Hi Subir,

thanks for help.

First i have tested with delete the user and reconfigure, then the configuration went ok but at logging in to a mailbox, I see the "old" folders but no entries. An error message appears: No server available.

Then I test with the old hostname. There was no error about the user, but in the mailbox I see the folders but there is the same error message.

Is it possible that there is an fault in the backup?
I shutdown the scalix-service, tar the /var/opt/scalix directory with the -p option and untar it on the new system.

Is there an other way to put the message stores (V10) of the users to the new V11-system ? This could be an possible way for viewtopic.php?p=31889#31889, too. Any idea?

Thanks
Dieter

Hi Dieter!

Can't the hostname of the new server be changed to the one as the old server. As doing
this helped the installation to complete at least. :)

Thanks,
Subir

Hi Subir,

I've done this, out of existing network, new DNS with the specific entries and so on...

The installation and configuration went ok, but in SWA I see the folders in the upper left window from the useracount - but no items in there ! After a while the Errormessage appears : "can't connect to server" (translation from German). But there must be a connection because the (self generated)folders will be shown!

Thanks,
Dieter

Hi Again!

I would request you to perform a permission check on the data folder, check the
permissions for scalix files using the command "omcheck -s -d", to actually fix the
problem if any of permissions, you should run omcheck to generate a shell script
- on standard output - that, when run, fixes the problem for permission issues.

Code: Select all

omcheck -s -d >fix_perms.sh
bash ./fix_perms.sh

You might want to review what the script is planning to do before actually executing
the second command.

Thanks,
Subir
