Installation of Scalix 11.0.3 in VMWare Workstation

Postby turbojo » Fri Apr 13, 2007 2:00 pm

I am attempting to install a test version of Scalix 11.0.3 for evaluation purposes.
I am installing it on a RHEL4 VM running on VMWare Workstation 5.5 on a Fedora Core 6 PC.

I get an error from the Network Check during the installation:

Network check failed - Network interface could not be determined.

The VM only has 1 NIC eth0 it is set up in the VM as bridged and so uses it's own network address.

The NIC functions and the VM can see the rest of the network and the dummy DNS server I just set up resolves the VMs name etc.

Has anyone else come across this error? How did you fix the problem?

If no fix known can anyone let me know what this error means to point me in the right direction.

Can't give any more details until Monday as I am at home now so can not access my test machine.

Cheers

turbojo,

I recall these types of issues when I first installed Scalix 9. Basically all your networking must be in order. Search the forum and faqs for:

static ip
hosts
dns
network dns settings
reverse dns

I hope this helps. Scalix installed without problems for me once all networking was configured.

Thanks,

I am sure that the settings are OK.

I am using a static IP

The host file was changed to how Scalix wanted it to be and now checks OK

DNS was set up and works and now checks OK by Scalix

It's just that I get the message - Network check failed - Network interface could not be determined.

It sounds like Scalix can not see my NIC.

I will double check the settings on Monday and see if there is any further clues in the debug listing.

Cheers

What CPU and how much RAM do you have on the Host PC?

i do about 3 installs of scalix on a vmware workstation running rhel4 per week, so thats certainly not the problem. most of them have 512 mb ram, but 384 is enough for a single-user test as well.

can you post the output of your ifconfig command as well as that of netstat -rn and your full /etc/hosts?

Thanks for the pointer, with a default gateway set it goes through the network check

This is a known issue

http://bugzilla.scalix.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11771

and it will be fixed in the next monthly release of Scalix in May. (Actually I fixed it... :-) )
