scalix passwords

I have spent days trying to install scalix using (what I consider) secure passwords. I can tell you that It fails miserably with semi-colons ( ; ) and tildes ( ~ ). the installer seems to take the passwords just fine, but I got random errors when the services where starting up. I was getting errors at the final "configuring" services stage. The log file mentioned "[OM 28506] Which Scalix Server system?" I finally tried using a "normal" (a-z) only password, and everything worked fine. I am passing this on as a helpful post to anyone who encounters the same problems. I would also like the installer to warn people when they enter non-supported passwords in the future.

this is extremely helpful. the problem is basically quoting of some special characters when the installer calls the omaddu command and hands over the password on the command line. Is this Scalix 10 or Scalix 11? Could you actually open a bug against the installer in bugzilla. scalix.com and provide some sample passwords that fail?

Thanks,
Florian.

I think this has been the case for both scalix versions 10 and 11. I started testing with 10, then waited for 11 to be released. I recently bought version 11, and while installing, forgot the password problems from the past installs. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it will fail with any password that starts with a semi-colon ( ; ) and I've also noticed this with passwords that start with a tilde ( ~ ). I do not recall having any problems with passwords starting with a colon ( : ). I will not give any examples, as I have already installed my new version; thus I am not in the mood for wasting any more of my time installing and reinstalling for the umpteenth time.

I have filled a bug report, the number is: 14563

I was wrong. I have just tried the original passwords I was using, and it is working fine. I have no idea what was causing the original install problems. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the scalix 3 times with various passwords, and it is working fine.

I am offically an idiot

Well, I found out what my problem was. I was using DHCP (I know, I know), and
I did not enter my ip and alias in /etc/hosts. This causes the OM 28506
errors, once I added my alias to /etc/hosts, everything was fine.

I have marked the bug report as INVALID.
