Can't get console or webmail to work (so far)

I've just installed Scalix 11 on a CentOS 4 (RedHat Ent) machine. Apache, Tomcat and Scalix are all running. When I try to follow the post-install steps in the install guide I run into a problem: Webmail brings up SquirrelMail and the console just doesn't answer. I haven't gone beyond that.

Suggestions are welcome, and thanks.

Please take a look at the FAQs that I announced at the top of each forum.

Thanks for the effort, D.

I followed (I think) the docs you mentioned, but to no avail. As far as I can tell I'm in line with those docs except that I have no instance-* or worker files as mentioned in the Apache doc. I don't know if that's the problem and I don't even know what's supposed to be in those files.

So I'm back to where I was: I can't bring up the console or webmail, even though TomCat, Apache and Scalix are running.

Any advice is welcome.

Why do I have this sense of dread?

Yes, nikolaus, I'm on an older Compaq Proliant 370 ML.

hi,

 hp ships great opportunities to hate them.

it looks like you have installed the full hp driver pack.
on part of this is squirrelmail which blocks some scalix services.
either you uninstall them or you remove/rename the file /etc/httpd/conf.d/squirrelmail.conf.
if you just remove the conf file every time you update the hp stuff you will get a new conf file.

further more as it is a ml370 you are using scsi drivers and hopefully on raid controller with a Battery Backed Write Cache. why ? this small thing speeds up performance of scalix dramatically. hp/compaq has implemented the driver only the way that you need this piece of hardware to use the write back cache. in older controllers you could simply enable it by configuration. there should be a post from florian from 2005 regarding hdd performance on compaq/hp servers.

hope this helps.

I removed Squirrelmail and the only difference is that I no longer get a squirrlemail page. Which is to say I still don't get the console or webmail pages.

Of course, I haven't done anything except remove squirrelmail. That is, I haven't restarted services or rebooted because I'm doing this remotely. But should restarting have an impact? (I'm such a newb)

at least a restart of httpd/apache is necessary.
maybe you will need to do reinstall the scalix web servcies (sac + swa).

is this your first scalix server ?

Nikolaus,

It is indeed. And it's been an interesting experience so far.

Just restarting Httpd didn't work. I'll have to address this when I'm on-site.

I rebooted the system but to no avail. Although Scalix seems to be running as a service, I still can't get the console or webmail pages to come up.

So much to know, so little known...
