Installing Scalix to IP Address

Postby thejoker101 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:11 am

On the installation does it affect anything if I put in an IP address for the server hostname?

If you can't tell, I can't get this installed and working properly.

Hello,

no, you definately need to set up a proper DNS so that everything resolves as it should. IP-Addresses will cause issues down the road (and the installer will not be happy about that).

I want the machine that scalix is installed on to only have our mail server. How would you suggest I go about installing it then? The web server will be a different box.

OK, when this is a single server install and you simply do not run internal DNS, you might be good if you just have your /etc/hosts setup accordingly. You will need an entry for your Scalix server, please see the installation guide for this. Also the installer script will tell you when doing the network check what is missing.

Say for example your machine is called "linux" and your internal domain is "whatever.com" and your IP address is 192.168.1.1 you need to put in /etc/hosts

192.168.1.1 linux linux.whatever.com

Post how you want it setup here and we fill in the rest.

Cheers,

Sascha.
