Incoming & Outgoing Email

Postby Pfefferminz » Fri Nov 10, 2006 7:56 am

Hello,

I've installed Scalix and everything works fine but now I have some very important newbie questions.

Local email should be delivered through network from user to user. That works fine with Scalix and is no problem. But additional I also want that every user in the network has the possibility so send and receive email to/from "outside" (internet).

We've got the same domain as the local one registered on Strato (ISP) where the same email accounts as the local ones already exist.

I've searched the whole forums and found out that incoming mails can be fetched by fetchmail. But how do I handle the outgoing mails? Where can I configure how and where "all other" (that means internet-emails) mail will be sent to?

Please help me :(

Melanie

.
Have sendmail installed and configure it to use your outgoing mail server.

I already know.. But the question is HOW. Can you recommend any tutorial or documentation to get sendmail working perfectly with scalix?

The easiest way is to have openSuSE installed, and do the setup through Yast.

If you have another OS, then search google for "sendmail doc", and take your choice of the 1,470,000 results listed.

For outgoing mail, you need to set the folliwing parameter in your sendmail.cf file:

# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSmailrelay.domain.com

mailrelay.domain.com should be the name of the server you're using for outgoing e-mail.
After making changes to this file, make sure you restart sendmail for changes to take effect!

Hope this helps.

I've already tried this... But where do I set the login-data (user & password) of my provider? I read this should be done in the "access"-file but changing this file didn't take any effect.

I've got SLES 9 and already tried to manage it with Yast. The changes didn't take any effect at all. :(

I'm searching on google the whole day.. but still no solution.

AppAmor is not running.

I'm still not able to send mails with my ISP as smart host. :(

It works fine to send the mails directly, but that's no solution, because so we're often on blacklists because there is no authorization.. (some mails didn't even arrive).

I've tried everything to get my ISP working as smart host:

I've edited the sendmail.cf using sendmail.mc as described here:
http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/auth.html#authclientinfo
and did the Auth-Info things..

Now I have the following problem:
Everytime I try to send a mail outside of the local domain I get the following return:

The original message was received at Mon, 4 Dec 2006 15:38:48 +0100
from myserver.mydomain.com [192.168.120.119]

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<user@outsideaddress.de>

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to mailin.rzone.de.:

550 5.1.1 <<user@outsideaddress.de>... User unknown
<<< 503 5.0.0 Need RCPT (recipient)

Can anyone help me? what could be wrong?

This smtp authentication with ISPs has been covered in many other posts on this forum. Try searching on

smtp auth

and use the second radio button. This post

may be just what you are looking for.

Don
