FC4 - Please check that the domain XXXXXXXXXX is licensed.

I have done a clean install and update of FC4 twice now. I cannot get the Community Version to completed the installation. All logs are below. Please advise, I must be missing something simple.

I believe some of the output in your copy/paste of the log has been corrupted - i see a couple of space in the middle of a hostname or the username (down near where the error occurs).

as there is no real domain licensing going on in a community edition install - i.e. assume you didn't enter a license key/license key file when prompted by the installer - i would think that this is probably a broken hostname resolution issue.

The installer creates a user called sxqueryadmin for internal use of the scalix admin console; the user gets an email address that looks like sxqueryadmin@fqdn.of.scalix.server. The command internally used to add the user (omaddu) will check if the domain after the @ character is licensed; it reports it doesn't. As community edition allows an open domain list, the only reason why this could be the case would be that the hostname/domainname is malformed - i.e. invalid special characters or a "." at the end or so.

Please check your hostname resolution and you should be good.

ok, that would indicate that the message store hasn't been created allright. please use the installer to first de-install all of scalix, then re-run the installer in --debug mode and do a typical install. I believe the postings that you did don't show the original error and therefore omit the root cause.

In particular the following lines indicate a problem...

strange. haven't seen this behaviour before.

For the record, the debug log should be contained in /var/log/scalix-installer-*.log, so the output redirection is not needed. Maybe should try without that, as maybe different output ends up in your text console and your logfile.

Are you running the installer in GUI or in Text mode?

I assume this was the output from the (failed) uninstall run? Again, this aborted in the middle of the run without any error message or trace........

Is this a clean FC4 install? Have any updates (especially python libs - installer is based on Python) been applied?

Just for the record, could you try on another, freshly installed FC4 system? Has this system used for anything besides Scalix before?

Yes installed on box just for testing (had planned on enterprise later and would initially have to do a remote install on RHEL4). Firewall and SELINUX disabled. I have done a clean install this way twice now, with the same results. Unless there is something different that I can do, can't see anypoint in failing 3 times.
Did this in GUI - GNOME
Did "yum -y update" right after the install. So yes the system was fully updated.

can you try from a ssh session or start the installer with --cli? maybe some graphical libs are strange version and the gui part crashes. if the actual installer has some error, it should actually have an error message. the text installer will have the same functionality as the gui-based one, also if you later have to do a remote install, this is what you need to use anyway.

I would also like to find out what caused the installer to crash on your system, so that we can eventually improve software and/or documentation.

I just talked to engineering - can you try the following if possible:

First, verify it's really a crash: run "ulimit -c unlimited" command
before running the installer, then run the installer (from the same
shell!) and then check if there's "core" file in current directory or
in /tmp/scalix-wizard.* (make sure you delete all such directories
before trying this, so that you can correctly identify the one used
in the last run). If there's no such directory in /tmp, then the
scalix-installer wrapper script cleaned it up and you'll have to
continue with another method below.

If you have the core file now, copy it to the current dir (with
scalix-installer) and run gdb debugger with
"gdb /usr/bin/python core" command). Lots of output should follow,
post it. After gdb prompt appears ("(gdb) " line), type "bt"
and post the output. This shows us where the crash occurred. If I remember correctly
RedHat uses debug information in separate packages, so it would be useful
to install RPMs with "debuginfo" in their name for pygtk, gtk and
python, but it will hopefully be somewhat useful even without that.

If no core file is produced through this process, let me know and I'll see what the next steps are then.

I tried a gui reconfig it worked fine. I will uninstall and try it. If I have to reload FC4 it will have to wait until after the 17th (travel). I probably should mention that the board is a VIA with a C3 processor. I use the low wattage boards for testing things.

I ran the installer and it seemed to work then configure. But it crashed right at the end again.
