Migrating from Scalix 9.4 -> 10.0

Postby les.piggot » Tue Mar 28, 2006 10:09 am

Hi,

Whats the best way to upgrade from Scalix 9.4 to 10.0. The dificulty with this is that we are taking this opertunity to migrate also to new hardware. Scalix10 is running on this and we were thinking of using imapcopy to migrate our user data however as far as I'm aware, Contacts and the Calander will not be transferred over (as there not stored in imap :O) ). An obvious way is to upgrade the existing server to 10.0 and then copy over everything in /opt/scalix onto the new server BUT this requires more downtime to the mail server AND I didn't think that SuSE 9.3 was supported by 10.0

Any suggestions on the best way to move/migrate the userdata?

Cheers

What you can always do is to copy the mailstore over to the new hardware as is (preserving permissions and ownership) and then install Scalix. It should then upgrade your mailstore for you. And then you have a fallback machine in case things go badly.

Of course the new machine needs to have the same FQDN, if you want an easy migration.

Alternatively you can use omcpoutu on the old server for each mailbox, copy them to the new server, create the users and omcpinu every mailbox. That will give you an exact copy of the old mailstore. Minus things like permissions and autoactions, I think.
