Hi,

I am thinking of setting up my own mail server, and Scalix seems like a great solution. But does scalix allow incoming smtp connections, or does it need a separate service for this? And is it safe to use only one physical server for it, or is it best to use a separate one to server as mail-relay?

Regards,
Leen Toelen

I'm not sure I really understand what your concerns are. To both your questions, the answer is yes.

Cheers

Sorry, re-reading my post shows that I wasn't clear at all.

Normally I setup a mail-relay machine which has access to the internet in a DLM, which distributes mail to an internal mail server. This is mostly done for security reasons.

So, to rephrase my question:
- does Scalix come with its own MTA, or does it rely on an external MTA, like sendmail
- is it safe to use the main Scalix server as incoming mail server, accessible on by the internet for smtp?[/url]

Hi,

rereading Dave's reply, the answer to both is still yes ;-)

Cheers,

Sascha.
