Install Scalix on a current imap server

Postby ugob » Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:06 am

Hi,

I'd like to install scalix on my server, which is already a sendmail/dovecot server. I'm using CentOS 4 Linux as an OS. I installed scalix on another server (remote location though) and it looks great. Now I'd like to know what is the best way to install scalix on the server while keeping the messages. There are 3 accounts on this server, so it would be rather easy to move the mailbox temporarily. However, I don't know what is the best way to do that. I've done it a couple of times with thunderbird, and I always end up with a few lost messages or many duplicates.

Any ideas?

Other question: This server is a Sempron 64 3000+ 1GB ram. It will be my file server and an Asterisk server. Is it too much to install Scalix over it? In fact, I'm the only user of the mail and file services, and there will be less than 1 line used on the asterisk PBX at a time in average.

Thanks,

configure mozilla thunderbird with all three imap accounts.

move all messsages and folders from each dovecot account to your Local Folders.

install scalix

set up accounts.

move messages back from Local Folders.

if you move, rather than copy, there is no reason why you should end up with duplicates. I also see no reason why you would end up with missing messages.

as far as running scalix, and asterisk on the same server, one way to find out. give it a try and see how it works for you. Im guessing it will be fine for your limited use.

ugob,

how many scalix users are you trying to put up on this server?

Thx,
Florian.

2 or 3. Mainly for test purposes and my own use (I`m a computer consultant). I use the server like a regular user and I will use the setup to show other people scalix's features.

Ugo

hi Ugo,

not a problem then. A base Scalix server will have a < 200 MB main memory footprint and not use any considerable amounts of CPU or anything.

cheers,
Florian.
